RE: 1ST ANNUAL MINIS ON THE LAKE WINE RUN

Brian and I MIGHT be joining the crew for at least part of the day (before the party that we are going to). We will come IF the weather is favorable to the roof down, AND IF I am feeling ok. I will not be drinking anything, and Brian may or may not (he said that's a little early for him, but he's been known to change his mind on that). So we may see you guys on Saturday, but don't wait for us or anything.

Cheers.

Two MINI's ( "M" & Charlie ) & 2 people per car. One is under age, so we have one built in DD. I am going to be high on MINI Motoring & won't really need to drink. My wife Joanne is the wine person in the family.

Rob

Also, will the Weggy's sub shop ,be open @ 9 am?

Mitch--do you sleep??? You wildman, you.

Thanks for your part in pulling this all together!

Despite what I said earlier, count me in for a cling. We probably won't be doing much drinking so pay as we go would be ideal (I think that's where you ended up).

Fab about Holly & Brian (hope the stars line up)! Too bad about Nicole and Mark (have a great vacation)!

Thanks Kim I haven't really done any of the work until this week so jimmyd is really to thank for getting this event to fly.

Anyway I am glad I took the time to make the window cling I think it is going to look real nice. Pay as we go is going to be the best choice I think. Probably just in theparking lot as we get out of the MINIs as we go into the winery. I would encorage thoes who wish not to actually embibe much alchohal to try the "spitting" method if you are interested.

I would be happy to give a little clinic at some point on tasting wine if anyone is interested. I am thinking with a group this big maybe a wine makers dinner could be possible someplace sometime. I am so glad this has turned into a big event.

Sleep not really my wife has been working 8-2 as a librarian at a summer program, and I work 1-9 most days at the NYWCC. Then I just don't feel like going to bed and when it is slow here I keep watch on this forum. I found the arcade didn't know about that!

We will have to have a talk.

PS  Bill and Pam might try to join the wine tour.

thanks for all your help the window clings are an awesome idea. I want one too. Do they say MOTL? As for calling the wineries thanks for that too. I plan on showing up at wegmans no later than 8:45 on saturday. It is duely noted the change in cast  and crew for this run still 21 minis,as of my last count, not bad for a 1st Annual Run. this will definately have to happen again. That lunch spot sounds great also. Just one question do they have a resteraunt or is it a BYOF eatery? I also have gifts for everyone as well as a suprise game with I prize per car possible .
no OK REGISTRATION IS CLOSED NOW no

We are able to picnic at Heron Hill and I strongly suggest that option. The Tavern would have a hard time even sitting the 30-40 people we will have not to mention the art festival. Being that the art festival is going on I am also consirned about parking. Hammondsport for anyone that hasn't been there before is smaller than the Wegmans Parking lot including all the resturants and stores.

I would also suggest staring at Hunt Country and heading towards Penn Yann, this is because most tours start in Penn Yann and go towards Hunt Country. In going the opposite way we will be less in the croud for most of the day. This weekend is one of the most crowded of the year.

As I mentioned before the wineries that I think would be our best stops based on working on the Keuka Wine trail are the following:

Hunt Country

Dr. Frank's

Bully Hill (If we get there early enough we can line up with a great view of Keuka Lake behind all the MINI's

Herron Hill (Has cafe and picnic area)

Ravins (Dry only and Small)

McGreggors (Dry only tasting room is bigish but takes a long time)

Keuka Overlook

Rooster Hill (Limited Space)

Keuka Springs

I do not know much about the brewery but that does sound interesting.

Ravins and McGreggors are smaller places and feature only dry wines. Rooster Hill is kinda small also. I would reccommend we all meet up again after lunch and stops at wineries allong the east side. At Keuka Springs there is a good amount of parking and a large tasting room we would all fit in at once.

With this large of a group it will take at least 45 min at each winery and most close at 5. I need to be back in Canandaigua by 4 so I may have to leave the trail early.

Because we arn't going on a bus or limo we have the freedom to take our own root. So if anyone want to do things differently there is no problem. I am informing the wineries above that about 20 MINI's with 30-40 people will be coming through but won't really be able to give them exact times. If a largeish group decides to go on the root I am planning on then I will call ahead at each stop to give them a heads up.

We can go the opposite way thats ok I just thought because that side of the lake is twistier we could end up on that side. Like a grand finale either way works lets discuss it at Wegmans. I will bring maps for those who want them. We could keep each stop down to 30 mins I am sure that not everyone will want to do every winery I know I wont. "Bully Hill (If we get there early enough we can line up with a great view of Keuka Lake behind all the MINI's" This would be a great place for a group photo I think.

One other thing, I checked into the possibility of window clings being made for this event. The cost is ~$3 a piece, if people are interested I need to know by tomorrow morrning as the place said they could have them made if I let them know on Wed. at the latest. I was thinking a MINI Wings logo with grapes in the center and "1st Annual MINIs on the Lake Wine Run" or "2009 MINIs on the Lake Wine Run," or "2009 MINIs Take the Wine," or ...?

"2009 MINIs on the Lake Wine Run,"  I like this one or just simply MOTL09

When I called the wineries I gave them estimated times 45 Min apart.  So we should probably go the direction I posted as that is when they are expecting us.  Also with 45 min blocks that accounts for driving time.  We can hit twisties on the way back to Canandaguia or for some they may want to go to Geneva from Penn Yann.

I collected 25 maps from NYWCC that has the roads and wineries so if I have time I will highlight our route, but bring your maps also they may be better or a good supplement.

I hope for a great photo op at Bully hill biggrin.  Everyone make sure you bring your cameras there are great view at many of these wineries.

From working at wineries I have noticed groups are notorious for not purchasing any wine.  Although it is not required, if a few of us buy just a bottle or two at each winery it would make out group look good and give us a great reputation for years to come.  Don't feel obligated, but the price at the winery will be as good as any place and they get to keep more of the money than when it is sold through the liquor store.  I know from experience that at least 15 cases of wine can be safely transported in a Cooper unlike the 3 cases that will fit in a Corvette so let's show the other clubs up lol!

Also tips are not required at the wineries but are highly appreciated for the tasting room staff.  Just a dollar or two really makes that day of the staff and they will really remember us as a great group.

Like I said before none of this is required, it is one area where tips really represent good service and not a requirement.

Mitch i already have the route mapped out for the trip to penn yan it. It is a nice scenic twisty route with all mini friendly roads as mentioned in my previous posts. I do agree with you as far as the order of wineries.

In order to do the wineries in this order we will not be going into Penn Yann first but be taking back roads after Potter. MINIMitch will be meeting up with us on the way, this rout is similar to the root we take when we go to Walkens Glen.

You seem to want to control the whole run. Did you notice you're attempting to change everything? It didnt bother me at first as I am an easy going guy but now it does. So what shall we do next?  Perhaps I should just bow out and let you take the rains? Remember the very first post ?Well as I see it it no longer exists. Don't get me wrong I appreciate the help but this has gone way beond simply helping  or even being a partner.

1ST ANNUAL MINIS ON THE LAKE WINE RUN

My wife and I went to Keuka Lake a couple of weekends ago and drove around the lake. We hit a few wineries but over all the drive was a very nice run. There were 9 wineries and 1 micro brewery. The east side of the lake the road was nicely twisted there is a place at the bottom of the lake to stop for lunch. So I caught my self thinking this would make a nice Mini run. Anyone interested in doing this some time as a group?

Also at the Dragon last year we had a Geocaching event which was great fun and I thought that maybe we could do an event in WNY this summer. So I am also polling the audience for interest here as well.  Please vote if you would be interested in doing these events.

As of 17 may 2009 here is the list of attendees:

I am editing my post after reading what Peppermini suggested.

This will be a fun day and I am thinking miscommunication has happened.

I apologize for possibly going overboard I am just trying to keep this day as smooth a possible.  I only became more involved when the group got large.  I am very happy we have a big group for this event.

I have a reputation at the wineries to maintain as part of my work.  So I just need to make sure they are ready and not upset with this group as it will reflect on me and my job.

Next year we will have a great template and will not need as much discussion.

I am very grateful for Jimmyd for getting this event going it is something I have wanted to do since joining this great club.

Time out:

It seems like the crew is pretty flexible, and would just like to get together to enjoy the day, so jimmyd and mitch, for the sake of the rest of the group, please work out any disagreements through the private messaging feature, and you will have a happy, eager group to do whatever the ultimate decisions are. Please understand that we are all very appreciative of the efforts that both of you have made to make this come to fruition, so let's keep it a positive experience!

Thanks.

Ok here we go! I love you all this will be a spectacular run!!!! I can't wait, Mitch I apologize as well for losing my cool but I do not take back what I said. I do understand you worried about your rep...But in the future you might want to have some discussion before you act. I will make it a point to discuss things further before I get emotional. We are all MINIACS that we can all agree on.

handshake.gif                                   GROUPHUG!!!!!

Well Enough of this blahblah.gif see you all tomorow.!!!

I'm in position and rarin' to go. Unfortunately Jill is not with me. no

The next few days of predicted hot weather got us concerned about leaving our two cats alone. I'm bummed Jill isn't here, but this will allow us an opportunity to see how hot it really gets in the house under these circumstances. The basement tends to run at least 10 degrees cooler than the upstairs, and we know the cats hang out there. Nonetheless, before we're comfortable bailing on them for multiple days, we need to make sure they'll be OK.

To paraphrase some of the MINIacs, "I thought we were just getting a cat (or dog or ...)."

Oh. I was supposed to print out a map?? biggrin Well, I didn't--sorry. If you really think I need it, could someone print an extra? Otherwise, I'll just get in line behind one of the MINIs w/ NY plates on 'em and hope they're in our cavalcade.

No I don't believe there is a map you needed to print out. I think JimmyD has a map for everyone and I just picked up a stack of the Finger Lakes Wine Trail maps that will be good for everyone to have if they want to wander around at some other point this summer.

MINImitch, my Aunt and Uncle and their friend will be joining us en-route. So we will be picking up three more MINIs as we go.

See you in the morning.
