I am trading my 2006 Mini Cooper S automatic for a 2007 Mini Cooper because the automatic 2006 Cooper S got horrible mileage (21 city/highway). I was wondering if anyone could tell me what mileage they were getting on their 2006 Mini Cooper Automatics? If the mileage on the Mini Cooper Automatics is as poor as the Mini Cooper S Automatics, I will just Lemon Law my Mini Cooper S automatic because it already has had 3 thermostats, a new heat sensor etc.
We picked up our 06 MSCa at the beginning of April and have put 10,500+ miles on it since then. Our Tardis' motoring has been totally trouble-free (I only needed to work on one side marker light bulb/socket).
During this time I have tracked my MPG at almost every fill-up. The Tasdis' average MPG is 26.3. Driving around locally its getting 24 MPG and on the highway 28 (with a couple of 30s).
I would say I definitely fit the 'spirited driver' category. Note that our "local" driving usually includes a fair amount of highway driving (~65 MPH) and we did quite a bit of Thruway driving (~75 MPH) this summer.
I'm getting 19-21 for city/highway mileage combined for my MCS automatic. Thank goodness the check engine light kept going on and I am in the process of filing the lemon law on this car because it meets all the criteria. I don't even want a 2007 Mini Cooper instead of the 2006 Mini Cooper S automatic. I cannot believe you are getting horrible mileage with a manual. What year is your car. I feel we spent too much money to get such poor gas mileage. My heater did not work right either and I had the sensor replaced and the thermostat replaced 3-4 times so far and the car just turned 1 year old. Mark from Towne Mini blows you off when you complain about the mileage but if you read what other people get, some get in the 30's.
Well first off I do have to apologize; although I do make my best efforts to please all of my customers it is not always possible. Second the on board computer does not give exact MPG’s; it takes many things into account to calculate an average number to be displayed. When it takes as many things as it does to calculate a number it may be off 3-4 mpg that will bring you from a so so 25mpg down to 21 which may not be acceptable in some eyes. Then you have to think to your self in all that rush hour traffic in buffalo and Rochester you may spend a total of 15 minutes stopped or traveling 15mph or less each day, so basically its saying to itself well I burned one gallon of gas but didn’t cover any distance, that will bring it down allot. Plus in rush hour you’re working the motor at say 4-5k in-between gears stopping and going instead of traveling 45mph in 6th gear at 1800 rpm burning little fuel. Then there’s the fact that every gas station and every area of town has different gas, winter gas, summer gas and well we don’t have top tier gas available which will cause carbon build up, I do suggest running fuel system cleaner every 3k miles, all of this will cause a drop and difference in everyone’s mileage. I wish I could say everyone will get 40mpg but everyone’s cars although the same are different and everyone’s driving habits and genre are different. When bringing this to my attention we will look for software updates, dirty intake filters, if it has high miles the condition of the plugs, the fuel adaptations to see if it’s running too rich or too lean, and all other obvious variables. Out side of those things there is nothing we can do, we can not adjust the timing or clean any carbon build up. Keep in mind the quality of gas, and yes the same gas station you’ve used for ever with good results may switch there gas or get a bad tank, the ambient air temperature, driving habits, tire pressures, condition of the fuel delivery system and ignition system along with the intake filter will cause poor mileage. Please if you have anything I left out add it in, I dislike poor mileage as much as anyone else and if there’s any tricks we can use we will here at the shop.
To Towne Mini...Sorry if I hurt your feelings but I was talking to the guy who wrote that he was "pissed at getting 21 miles on his mini". I understand how to take the mileage and don't rely on the computer either but the fact remains that I buy the good gas and get horrible miles whether I drive it in the Spring, Summer or Winter. Other people have driven my car and get the same poor mileage. We can't all be driving badly. Also, I have driven my friend's MCS automatic and get better mileage driving that car. When my friend drove my MCS automatic, she only got 22 miles combined. Why do you always think it is the driver? It just possibly could be the car this time. I have never in the past used anyone's name and I apologize for using yours. It wasn't nice of me to do that but I didn't know how to recall the message. I guess people can understand getting poor mileage driving in the city but when you also get just as poor mileage doing all highway driving, it gets a little frustrating.
