Who is near whom? (For anyone looking for spontaneous motoring partners)
I'm in Lancaster now but we bought a new house and we are moving to East Aurora next month. Apparently when you have a baby you realize just how small your current house really is.
Clarance isn't half bad.. I go zoomin thru there on occasion when i'm out for a drive, although I usually stick to north of Lockport when I'm raising hell...
I said Falls area because there is no Grand Island vote, and I'm on the north side. Grew up in Lockport, lived most of my 46 years in Niagara Falls, moved to the Island 2 years ago.
Niagara Falls - the bride's 2nd greatest disappointment!
Between Rochester and Buffalo..Stafford NY Home of Red Osier Prime Rib and Stafford Firemans Carnival...Going on NOW. On Fathers Day,Giving Away A 1965(I think) Stingray (or $50,000) Rt 5 and Rt 237.
Don't want to start no feuding and I sure as heck don't want to steal not sunshine from the MINI Club of WNY, but there are quite a few of us folks that live in the East Aurora, Holland, Elma and Orchard Park area that can't just zip off to Lockport or Rochester for an ice cream cone on a hot summers day. However, I'm looking to get something going in the Southtowns. Nothing major, for example, what a sight it would be if a bunch of us just showed up at Taffy's some night. Of course all folks are welcome, but there may be a need for us to do something a little closer to home. Drop me a line and let me know if you are interested. If I get enough of a response I'll get something organized.

Don't sweat it. I think anyone who would be offended at the reality of us being such a geographically wide-spread group is wound way too tight... The only thing needed to make an event 'official' is if two members show up..

Sometimes I tend to be a bit too blunt in my comments so please remember that my intent here is to inform and not to offend (end of standard disclaimer).
With another Laurie and Jack produced event now part of the local MINI/Mini lore in the books I thought it would be a good idea to share some pointers to future event planners on how to make your event a success.
If you would like to have some sort of a meet then it should be the person that thinks it would be fun to do's responsibility to make it happen.
Then you (the organizer) pick a date, pick a location, and choose a time for everyone to meet up.
You will find that if the event fits schedules your fellow motorers will be there.
Post the event on the websites. Give at least a month or two advance notice. That way folks can put it into their day planners etc.
And here is the most important step. Keep the thread alive. I have no reason to look at a posted thread unless there is something new posted. Post frequent updates (attendee lists meet up info etc.) That way it is always reminding me that the event is about to happen.
Finally do not be too upset of your event is poorly attended things happen. The Pooley party had around 25 owners that said they would attend and only 15 showed things happen. Don’t let it stop you from holding another event.
Impulse7 do you have something in mind? Now that we're all moved into East Aurora I'm almost ready to motor again.
I'll need a couple of weeks before I am ready to brng Mila out again, though.
The 19th was my daughter's first birthday party (which is why I was unable to go to the "Pooley Party"), the 26th is my daughters second first birthday party (half of my family was unable to come to the first due to a cousin's wedding) and I work the 27th. Looks like the weekend after, the second I think, would be good for me.
I'll need a few hours to clean her up before I go. In the last 6 weeks I might have driven her a total of 8 miles. I've just been too busy. Sitting in a dusty garage and getting rained on has left her an absolute mess.
I gotta get some more motoring in this year, it's getting close to winter slumber time.
Although I have not reviewed the entire list of members to see where everyone is from, it would not surprise me if:
A) I (we) rank among the furthest geographically from everyone else; B) I (we) are the only folks from Joisey...
I must say, though, that our hearts are in Rochester (at least MINE is right now...) Both Paul and I graduated from RIT (many moons ago) and stayed in Henrietta until '96, for a total of about 36 years between us... (19 for me, 17 for Paul). Nicole was born at Genessee Hospital in '88. Her Godparents are up in Spencerport, and my best friend is in Hilton. Not to mention Paul's Slot Car Racing Buddies (scattered around Monroe County), and all of our other friends, neighbors, and former co-workers. I really miss everything about the Genessee Valley area, including the food (Abbott's, DiBella's, and Jeremiah's) AND the weather (yes, I AM a snow bunny - first place I remember living is Duluth, MN...)
Now that Nicole is starting RIT in 6 days we have even MORE of a reason to be up there... And I think we will be taking every opportunity to do so... We are both looking forward to meeting up with everyone while we are up there in a week, as well as all of our other upcoming treks "home..."
