My step-son, had a small mishap with the all black Cooper S this past week. Seems a pickup truck in front of him lost it's bedliner in the wind and a 2x4 in the back flew out into the oncoming Mini. Seems the oil pan had a two inch hole in it and the board also did significant damage to the tranny. Seems there may be bigger problems ahead as the truck did not stop and now we try to track down the driver off his license plate with Towne Mini telling me there is at least $6,000 in damage. Brandi at Towne was sweet to point out what a shame it was since little Stealth Mini hadn't even had it's 10k checkup yet. Boo-hooo-hooo-hooo
Egads... that's rough. That's why I like my skid plate. Yes, it's extra weight. Yes, it's probally not needed, but it's a good 'just in case' part. It's also good in the winter, as I can feel chunks of ice and snow getting shredded on it some times...
They found the culprit and he confessed to losinghis bed liner on the 400 that day. Now it's up to the insurance companies to battle it out . . . ugh. Still don't have the car back though, possibly Tuesday they want to take it home over night to put some miles on it and "check things out" sure, who wouldn't want to cruise around in a all black MCS? let you know the final totals as they roll in. Glad to have my Cabrio to be driving in these days!
Well, my step-son chased him down and was able to get a plate number. We still don't have the car back yet, they just keep finding things wrong . . . we're at $9800 damage thus far and climbing. Made a visit to Towne this Saturday and was a sad site to see Mini all tore up with no front end and only half an engine. When all is said and done they will have basically replaced the whole engine. On the upside, the gave us a loaner . . . a sweet '06 CooperS with the six-speed automatic transmission w/Agitronic paddles PRETTY COOL concept and great when you're trying to eat and drive.
Believe it or not, but the guy who I always have work on my wife's car, told me that wrecked MINIs can easily get over $8000 at auction. Kind of spooky.
