I'm all for places that close to my house (15 minutes). I wonder if I'll have to cover up my Union Jack mirror caps. My wife's family (McDonough) doesn't seem to mind it, but. . . well, never mind about them.
And, while I don't drink, I have been known to stink on occasion...
"Stink and Drink" is a weekly event there, where the Pub supplies all the Limburger cheese and crackers at the bar. You only pay for your beer. They have Smithwicks (pronounced "Smiddicks" there, which is similar to "Old Peculiar" which I know you are fond of. Davenicity--The Pub doesn't mind Union Jacks, and no one will bother your car. They have a pretty big parking area. I've had my Mini there several times recently. Oh, by the way, you all have me to thank for the exceedingly mild winter we're having! Remember, I'm the guy who went out in October and bought the "biggest, baddest" snowblower I've ever owned in preparation for the winter! I'm now feeling bad about having installed my snow tires which are being ground-down at a frightening rate! But I just can't bring myself to pussyfoot around corners! Cogman
That's funny, I was thinking of Limburger when I saw that! Eeek! I have some Smithwick's in the fridge right now. Good stuff, more of a pale ale while Old Peculiar is definitely a brown ale.
Thanks for getting the snowblower, Cogman! It's been a great help this winter! :)
I just got an e-mail from Kevin Townsell, who runs the Shannon Pub, saying he has added another fireplace to the main dining room. So, even if February is rotten, we'd be toasty warm in the fire's glow. Bill
Well, I guess that rules out March 4th & April 1st! I'm thinking at this point it will probably be the one of the last 2 Saturdays in March. Our work schedule has been fluctuating a bit lately, and I have to get a good look at which weekend I'll be working.
I'm all for another drive to the Cannonball Pub once we hit spring. Also in the summer, maybe we could get something going at the Pizza Plant in Williamsville on the patio...
It looks like the best possible days in March would be Saturday, March 18th or Saturday, March 25th. March 18th may still be in the height of the St Patrick's Day celebration, so I'd guess there will be more of a crowd that day. (Which has advantages & disadvantages...)
Sorry this has been on the back burner. The house I've rented for 10 years is being sold, so I'm in the middle of trying to decide where to move to & getting ready to do that in the next month or so.
If there's enough interest to make a plan for a dinner on the 18th, let's go for it, but I don't think we've had more than 3 Minis at a dinner since last August.
So, show of hands, how many want to go to the Shannon Pub on 3/18, or do we want to wait for nicer weather (and less crowds post-St Patrick's Day)?
I am going to send out another email for all the folks I have email addresses for, to put the site address out again & encourage people to use the board, and to promote the Watkins Glen Opening Day event as a kickoff to the 'driving season'.
OK, who wants to go for a drive on Saturday? (And who's taking bets on the possibilities of a St Patrick's Day snowstorm?)
Jack and Laurie, are you still able to make it? If Bill & Barb come, we can see how many yellow Minis we can get in one place again. Dave, blue is always a nice addition. Any other color Minis want to join us? Green Minis for St Patrick's Day?
I've been sleeping at the switch here! Of course Babs and I will be there, but make sure you have reservations! This is St. Patrick's Day weekend there, and they are busy like crazy, especially in the bar area! Make sure Kevin Townsell knows we are coming! That place will be WILD and crazy for sure! Just a word to the wise. Bill aka "Cogman"
