I seem to have the Snap, Crackle, Pop guys living somewhere in my dashboard . . . It is not an electrical popping noise, and seems to be coming from behind the guages on the steering wheel. Has anyone heard of something like this?? I am due for an oil change at Towne and plan on having them look at it then, but telling them I have the Rice Krispies guys living in my dash isn't very technical. I will post again once Towne lets me know what's going on . . .
This winter, my MINI has developed a rattle somewhere in the dashboard. This is a situation not totally uncommon for the '02 MINIs. That being said, you should definatally not be having a problem with rattles or other odd sounds in later model years...
You are not going to believe this, but I had that same rattle and click. Towne knew all about it in advance. It is the two little paddle-like wind deflectors that pop up when you open your sunroof. Apparently there isn't enough spring (or perhaps too much spring) to keep them quiet when stowed inside the forward area of the sunroof, just above the clock and underneath it. They can adjust them for more tension and it certainly makes the rattle go away! Bill aka "Cogman"
Of course, if you don't have a sunroof, it might be another problem... :D I find I hear an occaisonal rattle in the cold, but nothing drastic from the dash. The back hatch rattles occaisonally, but I can't hear it with the radio on.
I wish it were that easy Cogman, but I have one of those retractable sunroofs that folds all the way down into the back. It really seems to be coming from behind the instrumentation on the steering wheel. Gonna call right now and make an appointment.
So, I had my check-up at Towne and imagine that . . . they were unable to get Snap, Crackle and Pop to play for them. I guess as long as it's only an annoyance and not affecting performance I'll turn the ipod up and sing a little louder. They have it documented and when my dash blows up I'll be able to say, "See I wasn't really crazy".
