Pulley Install

Hey all - looking to put in a new pulley on my 04' R53, but I'm a little hesitant to do it myself.  The two closest shops that advertise as Mini specialists are a no-go.  Black Forest wont do it and Little Speed Shop in Roch quoted me $600 with me providing the parts.  Seemed a little steep to me.

Ive been searching this site, NAM, googlebut havent been able to find anybody even close to the area that will do it.

Please!  Anybody know a nearby shop that can do this at a reasonable rate?  Or do I suck it up, buy (or borrow)  the tools and tackle it?

Thanks!

Ekstens did mine for me for about $325 but they said it took longer than they thought. I recommend them as they have worked on tons and mine has been fine over a year now.

Thanks!  They must be getting faster at it - just gave me a quote for $205 including tax....ordering WMW kit now.

Very excited.

I would also order a tensioner stop and maybe replace the tensioner too while they are in there

Yeah, the tensioner stop is on the list.  But I didn't realize the tensioner was a wear item.  Replace bushings, or the whole shebang?

usually you replace the whole tensioner. People recommend it. I didn't do it though lol. I will also recommend a Cold Air intake before you do the pulley install. You get to hear that new pulley in action then

Yep - still just going back and forth over which intake. Can't decide if the extra noise of the alta is worth the cost savings over a closed box like the m7/ddm...

Very generous, thank you! I'd love to hear it and will let you know when I'm out that way next.

Quick update - last week I installed the alta intake and got one-balled (big ups to the Muffler Man on Delaware Ave.). I could not be happier with either of these mods. Both were subtle enough so as not to be at all annoying, but substantial enough so as to appreciate while driving.

Yesterday I had the 17% pulley installed at Ekstens (along with associated belt, colder plugs and tensioner stop). Had a great experience with Ekstens and highly recomend them. The pulley was a great choice. Very very very happy.

The mini is running and sounding better than ever. I've fallen in love all over again. Next up - injectors and a tune...as soon as my wallet recovers.

Thanks again for the referral!
