I've got a 2002 MCS that has recently developed a "chirping" noise from the engine compartment when starting from a standing stop. It is usually limited to 1st gear, and seems to go away after driving for a half hour or so, and seems worse now that the weather has turned colder. I trolled the Roadfly and MIN2 boards, and there seems to be some discussion of belt slipping that may or may not be addressed by cleaning the belts. I had Towne Mini check the tensioner and belts while the car was still under full warranty, but they found nothing wrong. Anyone seen this annoying problem and have a fix?
Have a look at NAM they have lots of info on problem.I got mine fixed under waranty,Theirs a Mini fix # for the fix.It only happens when car is cold,a sharp chirp or howl,in first gear when clutch is let out when cold .As soon as it warms up dosnt happen. You will have to leave at dealer for a cold start so problem is "observed".Again on NAM under "clutch noises".
