MINIACS at Letchworth State Park, Oct 16, 2011

Come one, come all to the 4th Annual MINI gathering at Letchworth State Park on SUNDAY, 10/16/11!  I've reserved the Parade Grounds picnic area from 9 AM to 3 PM for our enjoyment. Rules look pretty much the same as last year--dogs on leashes (they say 6 ft); pack in-pack out; NO alchohol.  There is a fireplace there if it is cold, but firewood can only come from local vendors because of the Ash Borer problem.

  We will be doing a picnic lunch as in the past.  Potluck, so bring a dish to pass.  It would be nice if those coming, would post what they a bringing, so that we don't end up with 10 desserts. (not that that is a bad thing. Ha Ha)

We'll have anyone coming from Rochester meet at the Hylan Driive (Marketplace Mall) Wegmans parking lot (near 390/Hylan Dr exit). Wegmans is a little friendlier than the Target mall police, from what I've heard... biggrin.gif   Those coming from Buffalo can meet in the Elma Altons parking lot. (Transit & Seneca). 

Lets plan on both groups leaving @ 9am.  It is a 1 hour drive for both groups.  The Parade Grounds shelter is on the other side of the river & is not inside the park.  There is a nice hiking trail right beside the shelter. (an old railway roadbed from the days of steam).  We can also take a drive through the park after lunch.

For the newbie's, look at the older Letchworth posts from the last few years to get some background info. 

We will bring an Asian Coleslaw as our dish.

I'm sad that I will miss it this year, but Brian might be trying to hitch a ride with someone. Pepper is enjoying the sunshine and the extensive amount of MINIs that live in Florida!

Ooh, I may be off that weekend. Don't have a work schedule yet going that far but should soon. I think I'd vote for Sunday, but Saturday may be a possibility if I'm not working until 8 am.

I sent in a reservation application last night. I put down for the 16th & Parade Grounds as 1st choices, & the 15th & Lower Falls as the second choices. I had called earlier in the day & the Parade Grounds on the 16th were still available. I requested half day 9am to 3pm. I will update my first post when I get confirmation.

csnfoto I curl in Rochester. The club is on Deep Rock road, by the airport. There is curling every night. I will be curling Mon & Tues nights.
Yes anyone can come & watch. A lot of times you can get some one to explain what is going on. A few times a year there are open houses that the public can get out on the ice & try it.

LaserBlue - I will update the first post as soon as I get confirmation on the Shelter & day. First choice is the Parade Grounds on Sun the 16th, 9am to 3pm.

So who is leading the Rochester group?
I am leading the Buffalo group.
Meeting @ 9am in the Alton's parking lot in Elma. Transit & Seneca st. just south of the 400.
I know a lot of you are waiting to see what the weather will be like, but just to let you know,
the shelter does have a fireplace, & I can stop & get some firewood if it is cool.
I also think that there are wooden shutters that we can drop down to keep the weather out if need be.
The shelter is a good size & can hold 128 people.
The leaves are changing so it will be a nice colorful drive.

If you navigate to the left side of the map, you will see the Parade Grounds entrance off of Rt 438.  The shelter with the D in it, (First one you come to) is the shelter that we have reserved.

Where are all the Rochester peeps?  Cathleen, did you get the day off?  Will you and your ducks be leading the Rochester group down to the park?

I'm still a 'maybe' but hoping to go even if I drive down and drive right back. 2 things may keep this from happening- I'm getting my house ready to sell & sshow next week, and my mother is going home Saturday from the nursing home after a fall & hip fracture, so I may not be able to get that far away.

I think I've gotten enough done to go for a drive on Sunday (if my parents behave themselves for the next 2 days!).
