First Event of 2011?

Any ideas or suggestions for 2011's first event?

Is the calendar open to member postings or is it a read-only feature (unless you're an admin)?

Look foward to the new year!

Usually things have just been posted in 'Events', but I think the calendar should be functioning. (Not sure if it is widely read, but it's an option!)

I need to get in on something this year... almost 3 years with MINIs and 0 events!

How about a 1-day scavenger-hunt rally? Points given for various items/photos/stuff.

Supe-low entry fee, winner take all.

Interest?

Hmmm... after a few hours of this sinking in I'm starting to like it more and more...

drewster, I may be labeled unreasonable, but I was hoping for more activity on this forum.

I may go to a broader audience and stay with NAM and MA, popping in here every few weeks.

Perhaps it's a winter-thing...

I think that a lot of MINIs/MINI owners hibernate in the winter. My MINI becomes a hangar queen during the winter. Typically, the first spring event (Watkin's Glen racetrack) is a pretty popular one.

I'm in the same boat as Holly. My MINI is currently in storage 100 miles away, so it'd be tough for me to get it out even if I wanted to.

Just because the MINI's are asleep does that mean the forum goes quiet?

Speaking from other experiences the winter is when the forum comes alive for planning.

This forum's pretty quiet even when it's at its peak!

I don't think those of us who drive Minis all winter do much recreational driving until March or April.

The only people I know who are really enthusiastic about driving in winter are these guys-
http://www.mini2.com/forum/new-york-new-england-region/184441-arcticmini-2011-a.html

MINI2's Arctic Mini run- February, as far north as they can get. (Still in the planning stages for 2011). I think I'll have to rummage for DUCTTAPE's picture of the overturned Mini convertible on the James Bay Road from a few years ago. Perhaps a bit more of an adventure than originally planned, though he did drive the car home.

Yep, and I think David (DUCTTAPE) is going back again this year. Not sure he still has this Mini, but they were able to drive it afterwards, which says a lot about the strength of the Mini body.

Seems like we get an invitation from...someone...to join in for a run to a pancake house in the early spring..maybe in April.

tedscar does not hibernate, though it makes me cringe to see it wearing winter road yuck. (It makes me cringe to see it wearing summer road yuck too, but at least I can readily wash it then...)

Yep, some time in april the Genesee Valley BMW club holds a run. To be honest we have not officially set a date yet but it probably would be April 3rd with a fall back to the 10th if the weather goes wild. As soon as I know something firm I will throw that out for anyone who is interested.

DSCF1982.JPGHey Hey
Hi ya all. I thought I would climb out from under the rock and say hi. I had to take a break from the mini scene. And yes we do drive our mini's in the winter. I have a set of blizzacks on mine and I am amazed with the traction it gets. I this picture I am not stuck I just had to open the garage door. My wife has the allseasons that are sucky. Next winter she will have blizzacks. Tedscar I try to reply this week the message you sent in Nov. until then seeya CJ

DNR, why did you have to take a break from the MINI scene? Did we offend you? :) Hope to see you soon, buddy!

Hey, the Glen's opening weekend is coming up. April 16-17

http://www.theglen.com/Tickets-Events/Events/2011/Opening-Weekend.aspx

Kathleen will probably post something in the next couple weeks about it.

For the newbies, see the Watkins Glen 2010 post to get some background info. It is a lot of fun.

Oh, you will have plenty of company Dale.
2 years ago their were 33 Mini's, between us, TierMini & a few SOMC members.
Couldn't make it last year, but this year is a go.

I got real busy but in the back of my mind (which is where I store everything), I thought this was in April so hadn't checked the thread in a while. Bummer! I trust it was a good day yesterday?

A couple weeks ago I stopped at Maple Haven Farms Restaraunt in Franklinville on my way to Rochster. From the name, you might guess they have their own syrup. I pretty much won't order syrup-friendly food unless it's real. This is western NY after all... I can recommend Maple Haven if you ever get to the hinterlands...
