Brake job issue ...

Newb in need of advice ...

I'm doing a brake job on my '04 S and the front brakes were no problem at all. The rear however are a different story.

I'm having an issue getting the pistons to go back into the calipers. I've tried multiple claps and lots of pressure, but they just won't budge. Am I missing something? The front calipers were not an issue, but the rear ones are wrecking me.

Any advice?

I no longer have a MINI, but if I recall correctly you need to rotate the rear pistons back into the caliper. I think you can use a large screwdriver for the job, but there is a special tool that makes things a lot easier.

I purchased one of these tool kits when I had the MINI but never used it as I had planned to install a set of low dust pads but ended up getting rid of the cars before doing that job. Send me a PM and perhaps we can work something out  (I'm in the Rochester area).

Yeah. That little tidbit was left out of the Chilton's online guide. Thanks. I'll give it another go today.

Good luck.  If you get stuck let me know and you can borrow the tool.  I'm not looking to get rid of this as I have a BMW i35i and a deposit down on the upcoming 1M and the tool has adapters for different BMW brake systems.

harbor freight has the kit with tool and adaptor plates for $30. better if on sale or coupon. I have used it. Pony up for the Bentley book. Plus there is a howto thread on NAM.
