RE: TOY DRIVE '10 - Where & When?

OK gang, I left a message with Gary and his Piratenesss Wednesday night, hoping to hear back by at least the end of the day today, and haven't yet. Despite that, I assume we're all systems go for Saturday, but will do my damndest to square everything away with Gary tomorrow. I assume we'll meet at the RFD Engine 12 Fire Station between 12 and 12:45 on Saturday. Please keep in mind we CAN NOT block the front doors where the engines launch from. We'll park (backing in) on the side as we have in past years. I will post all the details tomorrow. Sorry for the delay, but most know the drill. (If you have questions, PM me!)

As for the forecast, Ms. Pepper, I think we're going to be better than we've been in about two weeks. We've had snow, rain, and then snow, and lots of all the above. The weekend forecast looks darn good to me!

I look forward to seeing you all there. Thanks for your help and COOPERation!

OK, I talked to Mr. Pirate--Here's the Plan!

We will meet at the Engine 12 Firehouse in Rochester
(160 Wisconsin Street) between 12:15 and 12:30 on Saturday afternoon (12/18) to consolidate toys and warm up (thanks to RFD!). From there, we'll take a MINI drive to the Pirate Toy Fund (PTF), at 1453 East Main Street, BUT we will approach from the alley off Barnum Street.

Here is a link to map showing our route: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=215454807204393205836.0004977cfc54d888b5e30&z=16

According to MightyMo (Scott) "the firehouse is a brick house with 2 bays on the corner of E. Main and Wisconsin. Fairly nice area of the city so no need to worry about the Mini. If you all can, as you arrive please back in the side driveway as far as you can so as to make room for the other MINIs. That should help to keep the street clear.
PLEASE, PLEASE do not park in front of the bay doors or directly across the street."

Although Scott cannot be with us tomorrow, he has arranged for us to have a firetruck escort from the Firehouse to the PTF if they are available. Channel 8 News may / may not be there--both Scott and Gary have contacted them. The PTF is expecting us at 1 PM. Gary the Pirate will be on-hand to greet us and help with unloading toys. He does have a 2 PM appointment, so we need to be prompt at 1 PM.

Whoever's game will meet up at The Old Toad
(277 Alexander Street) after delivering toys (http://theoldtoad.com/ ). Please make sure you enjoy our sociability responsibly. I want everyone to have a good time but no problems / tragedy, especially this time of year.

I've heard from most everyone from this thread who said they'd be coming. If you're new to the thread or haven't heard directly from me and are planning on coming, please let me know. I will TRY to make sure everyone's on-board before leaving Engine 12, but if you're running late, feel free to catch up to us!

See you all tomorrow!

Woo-hoo! Pepper is currently having her snow shoes put on, so she won't be wearing her bunny suit.

Remember please, pictures or it did not happen.

Dang it. I even have access to MinMo tomarrow. But no, I'm stuck at Charlotte Appliance on Lake Ave. selling TV's all day due to a shortage of staff.

The camera batteries are all juiced up and rarin' to go. The toys have been bought and are loaded in the MINI. The snow tires are on (to get through Buffalo's STILL IN-PLACE Lake Effect Snow Advisory. Once I pack (tomorrow ~0600), I'll be ready to hit the road.

There's still time to get sick for work Scott...

I've just handed off the Quack Quacks to Tedscar. Sorry I can't make it, but it looks like a nice day for a drive with toys! :) BigMini, I hope you and your family feel better soon.

Have a great day, everyone!

We had a great time yesterday, and apparently, boosted the Happy Pirate's spirit quite a bit. My hat's off to Scott and the RFD for once again allowing us to base from there, providing an escort, and helping us to unload, before having to respond to a call for help. Just seeing their instant response to an emergency reminds me of what I take for granted every day that I shouldn't. A sincere thank you to them!

Thanks to everyone who helped make this a success! It was great to see you all again and I appreciate your commitment to the cause (and the fun). We talked about the possibility of doing a Toy Drive next summer, so maybe we'll get a chance to try it again before next year's cold weather--though that is part of the charm, isn't it?

Happy Holidays to all my MINI friends!
See you around the bend...
