I had the CEL light on around 60-70,000 miles- replaced O2 sensors & no problems since.

Do you notice anything while driving or just the CEL?  The reason I ask is that I never had any CEL's but I was getting intermittent power interruption, especially when accelerating.  I replaced the original ignition wires and the COIL with new ones from the MINI dealer and everything was fine again.  This was around 81K miles.

Done that twice! ( wires 2 X- coil 1 x).... SOMETHING is getting wet and causing the misfire.....it happens right after I got out of the Laser wash.....(2- X's).....disbelief

Nice idea. Yet I can see it now. Go to the wash, open the hood, spray wires and people in line going "what the heck is this clown doing". lol

I THINK (not too often) that the water is coming from underneath as I drive through the laser wash... funny thing is that twice now, in the same place after leaving the car wash, the "check engine light" came on....no

Here's the update as of TODAY. 3 weeks an counting since the mini was dropped off in Buffalo. The check engine light was on again after I can't count how many times now. Towne did a great job in my "inspection II" service along with the "check engine light".. which the tech said it was the right number and make of the plug, but not the right "plug". Changed the plugs. Ran great all the way home. Next day. "Check engine light" came on. Took it back on a Monday ...bad injector. Waited for an injector to come in... replaced the injector...Tech was not happy with the "way in which it was running..so they head had to come off... sent to the machine shop...did what they had to do.. now they need to replace the valves...so I CAN'T wait to see the FINAL BILL.....may have been cheaper to find a USED MOTOR and do a complete swap.... Looks like a lot can happen in 72,000 miles.....

WOW! Did they give you a reason for sending out the head? Was warped or something? I can understand the replacement of the valves, lifters, springs, bolts and gasket at this point since they pulled the head. But what did they think was wrong with the head?

Forget the engine swap, it might be cheaper to buy a new MINI. I feel for you. Hope they gave you a loaner for all the time your car is there. Good luck.

aww Got the '02 back last Friday...after a month of waiting on parts, and head work. But all is well. Besides replacing a fuel injector, they found a cracked/bent valve. So I guess the valve seat needed some work...so off with the head...SO FAR SO GOOD. It's nice to have my CAR BACK!aww
