RE: 2nd Annual Pirate Toy Fund Holiday Donation--pick a date

Hi Teds Car, it's me, Melisa B!!!

I'm no longer at Bank of America but I'm still downtown.

I checked into the the Simon thing - We raise funds throughout the year and adopt kids at the holidays by using the funds to purchase needs/wants from their wish list. A delivery would be tough with the MINI Club because we work with so many different organizations.

I did however send an email today at work and asked my coworkers to "Help me stuff my MINI". I included a link to The Pirate Toy fund website, photos from last year, and the news story. Here is my blog entry from last year: http://minimelly.blogspot.com/2008/12/mini-parade-toy-drive.html

I can't wait to see you all soooooooooooon!

OK, I talked with Mr. Pirate himself and we're confirming 12/19 as the delivery date! I would say it's 95% positive but we're going to talk again on Monday and lock it in. (Dumpnrun, very sorry this date doesn't work for you; we'll miss you!) Anyway, Gary is very grateful for our effort. We agreed that last year was a great success and now we're bound and determined to make it bigger this year. Let's see how many MINIs we can stuff--what fun!

Hey Melissa, glad you're here! I was bumming that I couldn't get in touch with you. Checked out your blog--great writeup about our '08 event!

Kim, as I know you will, please post or contact me directly as soon as you have the date firmed up. I need to get the paperwork in with the fire dept. and as all government, upper management here can be slow too.
thanx,
scott

Woo-hoo! I'm very excited. I've tapped into my fellow coworkers (and also posted a request on FB), and hope to be stuffing Pepper to the gills! (Get it...stuffed pepper?)

It's OFFICIAL!

We will be delivering unwrapped toys to the Pirate Toy Fund in Rochester on Saturday, 12/19 at 2:00 PM!

For those of you who are new to the event, MightyMo has made arrangements for us to stage at the Engine 12 Fire House at 160 Wisconsin Street in Rochester.
(We'll fine-tune the details as we get closer to the event.) Once we've gathered and consolidated our toys into the appropriate number of MINIs, MightyMo has made arrangements for us to have a fire engine escort the few blocks up the street to Pirate Toy Fund (PTF--at 1452 E. Main Street in Rochester).

Last year we had about a dozen MINIs; let's at least double that this year!
Last year, we had a great 'conga line' of firemen and MINIacs uloading toys via 'bucket brigade. Let's do it again! Last year we had two MINIs loaded with toys; LET"S AT LEAST DOUBLE THAT THIS YEAR! Last year, we had Channel 10 News come and cover the event. I don't know if they'll do it again this year, but who cares? Let's do this for the kids, follow it up with a good toast at the Toad, and kick off a great holiday season!

Thanks everyone, in advance! I'll be taking a head / MINI count as we get closer to the date to try to make arrangements so everyone will fit into the limited parking available, but I'd rather have too many MINIs than too few!

(p.s. Dumpnrun--I am thrilled you and Nancy are going to join us! It just wouldn't be the same without ya!)

All,

I wanted to share with you an idea I proposed at work for our company holiday party (ours happens to be Dec 18) to help stuff my MINI:

Secret Santa Gift Exchange to benefit The Pirate Toy fund

Draw a name from Lisa between date and date

Purchase and wrap a toy that reminds you of the person you drew.
For example, if Julie drew Jason B, she might buy him a Chewbacca toy

All presents will be distributed and unwrapped at Nicks house.

When your present is opened, explain (1 min or less) why it made you think of them.  Jason reminds me of Chewbacca because.

After the gifts are opened, the gifts will be donated to the Pirate Toy Fund

Melisa (One S) will deliver the toys on December 19th

Now MightyMo, I checked. A few posts back (way back to p. 1) you called it a Fire ENGINE. What gives? Perhaps we should group up an hour early so we can get the crash course in fleet terminology. (Well, maybe not a CRASH course, but a run-through or some such thing). Then we can all get little axes or something to prove we've been through the training and are certifiable. (I probably don't have too many classes to go...)

MeliSa B--that is a fantastic and generous thing your company agreed to do. You must have really vambazzled 'em to get 'em to buy into it, but THANKS. We look forward to seeing your MINI jammed with goodies for the little shavers! Bring your fan club from the corporate world--the more, the merrier!

gvcmel, that's great you're going to join us again--thank you! I can certainly vouch for MightyMo going above and beyond the call of duty last year. I think I talked to him between every plow job the day before delivery. Since lightning (and snow storms) don't strike the same place twice confuse, I'm confident we'll have no snow to contend with, between buildings or anywhere else...

Kim,----------------------------------- now now.... You park & nature guys. A "truck" has an "engine" and most big diesel "engines" are in a "truck". Or maybe there is some political correct thing out there where if it is only men on the thing it is a "Fire Truck" and if women are on it then it is a "fire Engine". And then owning a MINI cooper does not mean one has a MINI mind....lol Got ya back.

The gift bag idea by LadyBug is pure brilliance.

As far as snow. This is the latest snow fall in 57 years so far. Before you say global warming, last year we had more snow by Jan 1st then in the past 10 years. I'm in for getting Tedscar a "Mini" plow. (got ya twice......LMAO) But he is right. There had to be calls all day & night between Kim, Gary and I about the timing of plowing that driveway....Now I'd like to see that lightning snow. Can see it now "wham" I can't see....I got lightning snow in my eyes.( and that would be three :) )

All -

I might need some help with my toys!! We recieved the OK from the big boss to move forward with the Secret Santa for the Pirate Toy Fund idea! The holiday party is for the Carrier Services department at One Communications.

We have easily have 20+ people in my group and the person orgainizing the event said that I might need two MINIs for all of the toys!

Please email me
(melisa.beauchesne@gmail.com) if you could be available 12/18 to swing by the party and put the overflow toys into your car?

I'm sorry that I won't know until the day of the event if I'll need an extra MINI but I want to make sure I'm prepared.

Melisabug, this is AWESOME! How cool! Thank you, your company, and your co-workers for joining in to make this year's effort a huge success! Your party 'theme' sounds like a great twist that everyone should have a lot of fun with. Way to go--and thanks again!

MightyMo, now I get it, but I might still want the tour. I know I shouldn't say this but I heard the other night that if we don't have "appreciable" snow by 12/3, then we will break a 60-some year old record. We actually have a Lake Effect Snow Advisory in effect, but it doesn't look (from the forecast) like there's going to be appreciable snow (or lightning)...

Ok, next year we're doing this at school. I wasn't quick enough on the draw (and I'm still the new person) to get it going this year.

We'll still be there for moral support!

Trix--moral support will be greatly appreciated--not to worry!

All, help me!

I called Dan Ives at Towne today to see if they'd want to be a corporate sponsor. To be sure, I caught him off-guard. He was with a client, on his way out the door for a meeting, and then out of town for the weekend. He asked me to call him back with a few ideas for how Towne might be able to contribute, particularly without a big cash outlay.

So if you would, let me know your ideas for how Towne could help us out. My rather obvious idea is for them to just join us--have their people contribute and send a few MINIs over for the reindeer games. I would rather have participation from them than just cash. But, let me know what you think. Dan asked me to call the middle of next week so let me know before then--thanks!

AHEM, Mr. Dumpnrun---if my eyes don't deceive me, your new avatar shows two (TWO!) MINIs in what I remember to be your garage! Did your Clubman have a litter?

Kim - I believe that's a photoshopped pic that Chris took. I could be wrong.

As far as Towne goes; if they have any MINI car toys, they could donate them. Even if they donated $100 for us to go toy shopping, that would be a good amount of toys (if you send me out shopping anyway). I wouldn't consider $100 to be a "big cash outlay". Participation is great, too. They could also put a donation box at the dealership to help collect toys, or offer a discount for service if a toy is donated.
