Carmen...a rescue terrier/beagle finds a new home...

Some of you know after swearing we wouldn't get another dog, that I (of all people) started looking on Petfinder, ahh...just to look at pictures of dogs--not 'cause we were interested.

Well, little Carmen caught our eye (http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=14225133). In fact, she was the only dog of all those poor animals that appealed to us. After a day or two of very serious thought, Jill filled out an extensive application to Carmen's Ohio shelter / foster family. A few days later, we heard that Carmen had already been adopted. We figured it was not meant to be and closed the door on our distanced curiosity about dog 'ownership'.

A week and a half later, Jill nearly passed out one night when she got an email saying Carmen's new family had returned her. I won't even get into their issues, other than to say their decision suddenly created another chance for us to consider adopting her. We (I) had to give it a lot of thought. The loss of Ted has been difficult for us, and is, even now. I wasn't sure I was ready for this move, for Carmen, and for me. (Though Jill felt similarly about Ted, she was ready to drive to Ohio that night!) We had some questions for her foster people and waited for them to give us the one wrong answer. There were none. After another day or two, we agreed we needed to do this.

Today, we drove to Akron OH and picked up Carmen. We were warned about all her insecurities, but after taking her to a local park and enjoying a nice wet walk with her, and once she got used to Ted's car, after about a 3-hour drive, we made it home. She has settled right in! She is a young, happy, healthy little dog. She is tiny--she makes Ted look like a giant! She is sweet, smart, and apparently, feels right at home! Here's a few pics of Carmen moving in. I'm sure she'll be joining in for MINI events--she seems to very much enjoy Ted's car (though we don't have pictures of her in it yet). Here she is--here's Carmen!

She's gorgeous! I especially like the photo of her on Jill's lap with a picture of Ted in the background. She's very lucky to have warm, loving people like you two to adopt her and become her new family. I can't wait to meet her!

Congratulations! I know it's impossible to replace a dog like Ted, but Carmen looks like a sweetie.

Thanks PepperMINI and yellowmininy! We've had Carmen a little over a day and already we can tell we've got our hands full. She's actually been very good but an obedience class is in her (near) future.

We had a couple great walks with her (she has to be on a leash). She's all business on those walks. Between the beagle and the terrier in her, believe me, she doesn't miss a thing. After being on patrol, she'll come in, jump in one of our laps, then fall almost completely asleep. I say "almost" because her ears are always listening for any little noise that says she's got to go back on the clock again. And if so, then she's up immediately and back to work.

Here we go...

OMG VB! That kitten looks like it could be your child! In that second picture, the kitten has the same expression on its face that you do...you should take a pic of the two of you side by side! What did you name it? Boy or girl?

I figured an adoption would be in your future. Our cat (Clover) was a rescue it is very nice to bring something into your home that needs some extra love. She was basically ferrel when we got her, and she sometimes still is. We know she loves us just in her own special wild way.

Also if you have never tried to photograph a kitten then you should, you will then understand the blurriness.  I don't think kittens ever sit still.

Sorry for the thread hijack
Carmen is beautiful I like the name and I like the mix!  I once had a rescue beagle, they have a lot of energy and are a great friend.

More cat-hijack:

Orphaned feral kitten, now 13 years old, Ella.  (and we have the 'Beware of Cat' sign, just in case!)

Great pics everyone! Hail to the cats (and Carmen, of course)!

Mitch, are those pictures unadulterated? Clover's eye color is amazing.

Jill has always wanted vertical pupils..for what that's worth.

Oh there is some tweaking, but her eyes are that color. Her eye color depends a lot on the lighting when the picture is taken.  The first picture actually has the most tweaks I did a lot of desaturation.  She is actual a blue gray cat and that in some lights makes her very strange looking.

Aww, they're all so cute! I have a soft spot for beagles, as my puppy's a German Shepherd and Beagle mix. Back at my old apartment we had a couple cats, so I'll include a couple pictures of them, too.

Cassi's my puppy (ok, not really a puppy, but you know), Gabby's the calico, and Olli's the black and white. The last picture is from not too long after we got Olli, when she was still a kitten

Still, awesome pics Mitch of a beautiful cat!

CC, love your pics too, especially Cassi. She looks like a great dog. I love the way cats are so nonchalant about being in weird positions in goofy places, like that was perfectly normal.

Maybe we'll have to have an animals & MINI event sometime...

VB, I agree wholeheartedly with Pepper! You're not getting all your tattoos sucked off with a Dyson, are you?

Yeah, Cassi was very happy about her first ride in a MINI. I keep trying to get my parents to bring her out to an event....She's great when she's not on our property, and I'm sure she'd be running up to people looking for pets and treats.
And yeah, I'd find those cats in the weirdest places sometimes. Don't have them anymore, since they are my roommate's who I don't live with anymore

And, hope you feel better VB!

im getting better everyday. now i need to start standing up more. in the bed for a week straight sucks.had two teeth extracted which led to bleeding for 14 hours straight no clotting leading to a liver clot, leading to dehydration which led to a midnight hospital visit in the emergency room, leading to a severe flu 102 temp for 2 days puking every 5 minutes no food for 3 days and now im sitting here trying to get my mobility back. developing bed sores. total time in bed. 1 week and counting. hahaha. its fun though. this thread really developed into a whole different thing. haha. i just didnt know if we really should start a new thread about my complications.

VB best wishes for a fast recovery! If I were closer I'd bring you some soup smile.gif

We went to the dog park every day this weekend, and it would be great to get the Mini doggies together there (also a nice place for a picnic!). Cammie is still getting used to the whole idea of the dog park, but every once in a while she'll get running with someone. She kept up with an italian greyhound on Saturday... it was hilarious.
