Anyone interested in a Devilish ride on Route 666 in Pennsylvania in October????

My wife and I in Sofie took a ride today down to Route 666 below Warren, Pa.  I used to take the Goldwing on this route, but today was so nice we decided to take Sofie. We stopped at the Tippy Canoe Restaurant for lunch in Tidioute, Pa. for about an hour. Nice place to eat. There is also a cool look-out near Tidioute, Pa for after lunch. 17 miles into 666 is a neat place in the woods called Tall Oaks (http://talloaksstores.com/)  that has several gift shops and snack food for the travelers.

You can look up the route at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pennsylvania_Route_666

The route is on the narrow side with little traffic (except motorcycles).  The twists and turns and up's and downs are a riot in the mini. Most of the road has been repaved.  It's beautiful country and part of the trip would be along the Allegany River.

The whole trip would take approximately 4 hours travel time to and back from Clymer, NY. Or you can cut off that area if you travel home through Warren, Pa , Jamestown, NY, to Fredonia.

If anyone is interested I can organize a devilish 666 tour Oct. 4,18, 24, or 25.

The Bennetts from Erie completed a three day trip this past week through the "Pennsylvania Wilds" in Ivy, our 2002 Mini.   Went from Erie to Titusville to Tionesta to Barnes to Ridgeway to Saint Marys to Emporium to Driftwood to Benezette(Elk Country) back to Driftwood to Renovo to Hyner to Waterville to Wellboro(Pennsylvania Grand Canyon) to Couderport to Smethport to Kinzua Bridge to Kane to Warren and back to Erie.   Were several short side trips.  Total trip was 617.7 miles.

Weather was great.  Were on Route 666 and got lost.  Cost us 30 minutes.  Roads were generally great except for a 10 mile section of 948 which was being tared and chipped.  It rained stone chips and dust.  Route 414 along the Pine Creek Trail was very rough in several places.  Otherwise great Mini driving roads with very little traffic.

The first night we stayed in a bed and breakfast in Benezette; the second night in one near Coudersport.

The is the kind of adventure we had purchased Ivy for.biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

Planning to go to Watkins Glen this coming weekend for the Vintage Races.  Weather will be the determing factor.

There is a lot of great MINI roads in PA. I used to service copiers years ago in Northwestern PA. So I have been in or through Wellsboro, Coudersport, Smethport, Bradford, Kane, Warren, Titusville. I am a rail fan so I have seen Kinzua Bridge. I heard that a portion collapsed because of rusted steel. Also been through Renovo. The Pennsylvania Railroad had some shops there, back when steam was king.
That route 666 sounds like a fun road. Got some things going on in Oct. Will have to see how this unfolds.

Well, heck, that's dang-near in our backyard so more than likely I/we would be up for this one. We went to the Tippy Canoe a few months ago kind of by accident. Had a great lunch there after a nice trip along the River from Warren.

I can vouch for at least some of the scenery on this route--I would think the leaves would be gorgeous in addition to it being a fun MINI Motoring adventure!

kk, don't know for sure that it's going to work, but we'll try. I'll have to do some more checking on the dates. Sorry for the wishy-washiness, but planning wasn't one of the requirements for getting the MINI...
