Rear window molding pitted

After this winter I have noticed the silver molding at the bottom of the back window is pitting. It seems the plastic clear coat is not holding up. Is it just MiniMo or is this common? I have rear clear coated paint with perfection but never moldings. Is this just something we have to accept and sometime down the road fit with new trim?
Feedback please

My '09 has some spots on the rear molding as well.  It's not pitted but there are some dull spots, like the clear plastic is lifting in a those spots.  She only has about 7500 miles.

What Cali said. Mine is on the beltline, and looks almost a little rusty. Some of it came off when I gave it a good washing a few weeks ago, but some remained. That's from memory since tedscar is up at Towne getting its face fixed. Will look more closely when I get it back. If I remember, I'll ask whether it's a common problem when I pick it up.

I noticed that on mine as well. The molding underneath both wipers on the clubman doors looked like rust spots. I took some wax to see if they would come off and noticed they were pitted in spots. I am going to have them replace the moldings when the car goes in for its next service.

'M' looks good so far. Charlie has some stuff below the rear wiper pivot shaft. Kind of looks like dried lubricant that dripped down. Most of it came off when washed. Will try some goo gone on what is left.

The goo gone did work a little, but I tried polishing compound & that easily took it off.
