My wife and I went to Keuka Lake a couple of weekends ago and drove around the lake. We hit a few wineries but over all the drive was a very nice run. There were 9 wineries and 1 micro brewery. The east side of the lake the road was nicely twisted there is a place at the bottom of the lake to stop for lunch. So I caught my self thinking this would make a nice Mini run. Anyone interested in doing this some time as a group?
Also at the Dragon last year we had a Geocaching event which was great fun and I thought that maybe we could do an event in WNY this summer. So I am also polling the audience for interest here as well. Please vote if you would be interested in doing these events.

Wineries YES!!! I was planning on organizing this at ome point this summer when my wife and I move to the area. We have a cabin with a lake near Canandaguia lake so I thought we could end or start there for a picnic maybe.
I have worked at Dr. Frank's, Seneca Shore, the Wine and Cullinary Center, and a couple wineries down here in the Fredonia area. I also know many of the winery owners around keuka and senaca lake quite well. I was thinking of contacting some of them and set up something, maybe we can get some specials? No promises but that was my intent.
When I worked over that way Corvette clubs would come and other clubs also. Not everyone did a tasting at each stop as to be safe.
There are many awesome roads over that way and the views are beautiful. It would be a lot of fun.
I'd also be interested in Geocaching, we didn't get a chance to check it out at the Dragon last year.

You want Dr. Frank's Riesling and you are relatively close to Germany And Alsace? That is a huge complement to Dr. Frank's! Did you hear they had a fire, I guess everything is ok.
Yes. My Girlfriend and I would be interested. Sounds Like A good Time. Glad to see there is a micro-brew Stop. Will have Growler in hand . Keep us posted.
Yeah Acually a french friend of mine who used to work for the French Embassy Exporting French wines (and knows her French wines very well) was VERY pleasantly surprised by Dr. Frank's (gave her a bottle of 2006 Riesling reserve), after tasting it she called me fairly late at night to rave about it he he. Also, don't forget about the Cheese Creameries which dot the Finger lakes, some of them are really great. I was in the process of organizing a Cheese Run just before I left, so if you want more info, or want to revive The Cheese Run, Let me know- I'd be more than glad to help out in any way i can...although the 4,000 Mile thing may make it bit difficult...

Well it does not have to be 2 separate events we can combine it into one event. I am looking at maybe doing a winery run early in June. Mitch if we meet at your cabin we could do the Keuka lake wineries and do lunch as a dish to pass that way there is no money collection involved. We could also do an introductory to Gloating after lunch for all interested.
Only thing is we need attendance so lets all talk it up and get people there.
Let me know what you all think of this idea.
Side note I just became a Shriner and they have a cruise night every Friday night I plan on attending this event it would be cool to have a mini club show up too. Here is the link. http://www.radiok2fx.com/cruise/index.htm
I was looking through a few posts and there is a birthday run on 6/13 for the 50th anniversary of the mini cooper so I think this run should be in July. Here is a suggestion we could do it on the 4th and watch the fire works on the lake. How does that sound?
Well, July 11th is my oldest daughters' 21st birthday. And, since we like our new clubman so much & Mini has the 1.9% offer, we are getting another Mini (hardtop) for our two girls to share. This might be something they would be interested. The younger daughter can't drink, but she loves cheese.

11th may be doable for me. My first wedding anniversary is the 11th and I know we are going to dinner on the 12th in Hamburg. I will be working at the Wine and Culinary Center in Canandaigua this year again! So come visit me. I will post my hours/days when I know.
Ok sounds like a go!!!! This will be the first annual Minis on the lake wine and geocaching run!!! So far looks like we have 7 interested here is the list as I see it this far. Please let me know if you need to be taken off the list.
jimmyd TrixieinNY Mitch tedscar Gotagolf Dumpnrun vh jrbond007 CharlieCroker09 Mitch would you like to aid me in the planning of this run?

Yes I can help for sure. One thing that would help is if each person that is planning on going gave a little description of what kinds of wine they prefer. Then I can pick wineries that will best suit the group.
I tend to drink dry wines, but I know of some wineries that excel in both dry and sweet. Also red/white or any specific varieties.
As with anything these days, we have to be definite maybe-s. Unfortunately, ted is declining and our schedule pretty much revolves around her. Would love to do it if it works, but can't commit at this time. Will certainly watch the thread and commit (or not) when we have a better handle on our situation.
By the way, welcome to the Club, vh!

WE did the wineries around Keuka Lake and they do have something for everyone. I am partial to the sweet wines my self but the drier wines are good too. Keuka Lake has them all. We might want to come up with a list of dishes to pass, and perhaps incorporate a cheese swap event as well. For those who want cheese with their wines.
Use of the cabin would most likely be out if we do it on a saturday. We rent it out and have a few weeks during the summer that we have it ourselves. That being said each Sunday is the day we clean/mow for the next week. So if we want to use the cabin it would have to be on a Sunday and could not be the 12th. The 11th is probably doable but without the cabin. However there are a few wineries that have food available and I may be able to swing a picnic area at one of them.
You can add us & possibly our daughters in CharlieCroker09 as definite maybe's as well. We will have to wait & see how their summer job search pans out after they get home from RIT next week. Joanne & I are partial to the sweet wines, & I do like riesling as well. Lauren, who will turn 21 on 7/11, has already indicated an interest in going. Diana, who is 19, can't drink, but maybe we can slap a MINI DD button on her & hope that the wineries will allow her to partake in non-alcoholic beverages. If the girls can't get the day off, Joanne & I would probably still come. We will know more in a few weeks.

Ok so far we have a route, we have people interested. We all can meet at the Wegmans in Canandaigua on route 5. The time would be 9am on July 11th, which will give us time to head out and hit a few wineries on the east side of the lake. Stop at the south side of the lake for lunch, then head up the west side and motor back to Canandaigua. This will make it simple and fun. If anyone has any suggestions feel free to post see you all there!
Sounds good I will work on some wineries and see if we can get anything special set up or what not. Anyone have any requests for wineries? What I see happen with clubs that go around is usually they stop at more wineries than you may feel comfortable tasting at so just sit out of a few that you aren't as interested in.
Well, I may not be able to get off of work (I work at Darien Lake, and the 11th-my birthday-is the day that Rascal Flatts is gonna be there). I'm one of my boss's better deli clerks, so she may be reluctant. I'll certainly try, though, because this would be a pretty cool 21st birthday (much better than in a store making subs and coffee from 3-11). As far as I know, my parents (and maybe sister?) should still be going.
