Cassy says bye. :(

All,

I know that there were a few times recently that I had talked about trading Kassy in and it was more in jest than reality, but unfortunately, the time has come for us to part ways. As all of you have seen recently, this economic downturn has really taken its toll on every aspect of life. While I am one of the fortunate ones to still have gainful employment, there has been talk around the company that they plan to cut 1,000 jobs by this summer. My position is one of those odd jobs that is an integral part of the daily operations in reality, but on paper it'd likely be one of the first considered for the chopping block.

After much soul searching within myself and discussion with the better half, we decided that having a car payment just wasn't the smartest thing to do. With Minis keeping their value so well, we figured that now was as good a time as any to sell. I went out and purchased a car that I could pay cash for, which negates the monthly payment. The good news is that I've gone back to my roots, which means I'm in a Mustang. The bad news is that it obviously isn't a Mini.

I know I haven't made many events nor spent too much time here on the messageboard during my time as a Mini owner. That is one thing I really regret, but my schedule was always very hectic and didn't leave me much time for anything else. I have two semesters left at school, then I'll be pursuing my Masters in earnest, which will afford me the opportunity to join the ranks of those working normal (9-5) shifts again, probably with a much deserved bump in pay. If things work out the way I'd like, I'll be looking to purchase another Mini again.

I will miss Kassy tremendously. She's been the best car I've ever owned, my only complaint has been that with the entire family riding, she just wasn't big enough. I only hope that her next owner will get half as much enjoyment out of her as I have.

I hope to be able to still visit here and still be considered an 'honorary' member of the Mini family. If permitted, I'd still enjoy the company of my fellow 'Mini'acs and would like to attend the occasional get together, back roads rally or drive-in jaunt.

I'm encouraged by the number of Minis I've seen running around on Rochester roads lately, even if it has been a 50/50 wave to no wave ratio. Hopefully they'll start to get the message and realize what a great bunch of people Mini owners are.

Here's to the great ownership base of the Mini and more importantly, the Mini itself. I never figured I could fall in love with a car so small, but I know I will miss her tons.

So if you see a 2007 Mellow Yellow & Black with checkerboard mirrors base Cooper running around, give her a wave. She may not belong to me anymore, but she'll always be my Kassy.

Thanks for everything.

Derek

Once a Miniac always a Miniac. Anytime you need some MINI driving let me know and we can go for a drive. As long as you give me a change to drive the Mustang also. You will be back, cars are temporary, lifestyle is forever. Keep waving at the MINIs even if you aren't in one, I wave at anyone who loves to motor no matter what they are driving.

Sorry to hear there will be a few fewer Minis around, but actual possession of a Mini isn't a requirement among us- anyone who gets what having a Mini is all about is welcome to spend time here & join in the events.

Still, I'm sure it's hard to say goodbye, since Minis seem to almost be part of the family.

Sorry to hear you have to part ways with the MINI, but it's understandable, given the situation you described. I would join what others have said and what you clearly already know (long before I did). I'm sure you're welcome anytime we gather; it sounds like you've got the MINI camaraderie in your blood.

I wish you well, and hope that someday you and a MINI are united, again.

I've been away from the group for a bit and am going down the list of post and what do I find? Another MINI going.....I am so sorry. It does sound like both of you have made well thought out choices. Good luck. I hope that your employment remains secure. And Mark I wish the best for you with the new home down the road.

Well, Kassy is still in our driveway. Things aren't going quite as planned (do they ever?). Time will tell what happens, I'll be sure to keep everyone informed. As an aside I can't believe how many Coopers I have seen on the road the last week or so, it's great!

It is the financing that Mini is offering. March was a record breaking month for Towne with the 2.9% rate.
We bought "M" in March. Then, April & May, they dropped the rate to 1.9%. Now we have CharlieCroaker09.
They are selling a lot of Mini's.
Greg has said that at least 3 couples have bought His & Hers Mini's recently. Well 4 if you include us.
Although ours is a Hers & the Girls arrangement. I have a boring company minivan to drive.

Well, I still haven't taken Kassy and sold her to a dealer yet as they aren't offering me what I'd like to see. I've posted an ad up on craigslist, who knows, maybe I'll get lucky.

Here's a link:

Nice ad. I like a straight-shooter. Hope you find a good home for it!

Thanks Ted. Yeah, I don't believe in beating around the bush. I'm too busy and I know most buyers/sellers are as well. Things are what they are, and that is one of the things about dealerships that drives me crazy (pun intended).

Well, I've already got at least one perspective interested party. Not bad for only having it up on craigslist for 3 hours.

Well, it's official. We sold her to Auction Direct today. I feel a lot better not having that big payment anymore, but I miss her tremendously already. Best car I've ever owned, and can't wait until I can purchase another one.

I'm confusedno.  I was going to offer to let you drive one of ours next month.  Cause your post is soo sad and I really figured you'd be to busy to accept.  But, it looks like your whiteboard says you still have a MINI.
