Roof Decals

I am thinking about buying a checkerboard roof decal for my MCS. I talked to Towne Mini and they quoted me $311.75 labor to install it. I was wondering if anyone has done this
themselves. It could be well worth the money to have the dealer do it,but I just don't know.Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Town Mini  just installed checkerboard caps on both  side mirrors and rear-view mirror on my MCS , looks good ($300+)  Thinking  about the roof decal too but would like to see a mini with one on before doing so. Rich

Who is doing the airbrushing work and what are you having done? I actually thought of having the roof painted instead of the decal. The decal is only $200.00 by itself. The expensive part is the labor the dealer wants $311.75. Has anyone put the roof decal on themselves?  I think $511.75 plus tax is high for just a checkerboard decal. I wonder what it would cost for painting the same design? Any suggestions?

I would agree if the moonroof had to be removed but I don't have a moonroof.

just seems alot for a vinyl graphic to be installed that was precut to fit your car. I mean you just soap and water it up and squeegee out from the middle. Not rocket science.

Maybe they charge that much so they don't have to do it very often.

Would you have to remove all of the waxes and polishes that are on the roof first?
If thats all there is to it then I might try it myself. I think Mitch might be right. Has anyone ever installed one of these graphics before? If so, let me know if there are
any tricks to make it easier. What would you recommend to remove wax. Sorry for all of the questions but I have never applied a graphic before.

I would just claybar it first.

Have you ever put a graphic on before? Any tricks you might have would be appreciated.I would  use claybar just because it removes all of the grit from the paint.Don't you have to use some chemical to remove all wax and polish?

I think the clay bar removes most of the waxes, I imagine there is detail wax/polish remover. I have applied boot stripes and I think they would be much mor difficult. But again it is a guess.

Try Dawn dish soap to strip all the wax. I have heard roof decals can be quite tricky. I would post over on NAM, you will find several people who have done this.

My 2009 Mini has the checkerboard roof decal along with the checkerboard caps on the side mirrors, rearview mirror, and checkerboard dash.  It is definitely worth it.  I still get compliments on my Mini.

In '07 Got a Custom Roof Graphic done by www.Instylegraphics.com of a Grayscale Czech Flag. The total was 195 Plus S/H.
I only wanted the Flag to be over the Moonroof of my '06 MCS so I requested a 49-1/8"x30-3/4" 'print out' of a JPG that I sent them on some see-though window Graphics material.

Installation was SUPER easy. I washed the glass with some dish soap and then I put the graphic on with the help of my friend- Later on I found out that if you leave soapy water on the surface you want to place the decal on, it helps you be able to move and 'Float' the decal into the correct position. Once its in the correct position, squeeze out the soapy water from between the decal and the surface and the two adhere- but ask the manufacturer, I'm sure some adhesives might not be as resilient.

Taking care of the decal has been easy. I've heard of people's graphics coming off from too much scrubbing/washing, so I avoid car washes and Direct High Pressure sprays. Also If you don't properly trim the edges of the decal, Its easy for cloth drying rags to get kinda hung up on the edges of the material.

It looks Great, Its actually cooler inside with the decal on, since not as much light gets through. From the inside you can still see outside without a problem since there are lots of small holes in the material. From the outside It looks great

I'm actually thinking of putting the Bobcat Logo on the top of my CZ Classic MINI since it looks real B.A....Not sure though...what do you guys think?
