RE: Watkins Glen International Opening Day Sunday 4/26/09

Sure is my plan, and we will pick my Dad up on the way because we go by the road my parents house is on. Last year I met there but I think I will come from Fredonia this year.

Well I grew up in the area so I can get us there. There are several ways to go. We could take 20 the whole way (Wegmans is right on 5&20) or take the thruway to the Canandaguia Exit or there is this back way that you end up going through Lechworth and Geneseo) So I will check out the time differences and pick the most fun. Sound like a good plan?

As of now I can go, my sister in law has a wedding shower that day and I may have to hang out with my father in law and the groom. This isn't a bad thing because it would be fun, but I really want to go to opening day.

Mitch - bring your FIL and the future groom, maybe they'll want to drive a lap!

We will be there as well.
We are spending the night at the Harbor Hotel for our anniversary the night of the 25th, and we planned that before we knew it was opening day. The only issue we are having right now is whose car we are taking...my MINI or his corvette.  It is possible though we will bring both. biggrin

I now must wake up the Mini from her winter's sleep and get her ready for The Glen. It is time to Motor! Meet some of you at Wegman's Canandiagua for a pre-run to the track. Hope they treat us agagin as they did last Spring. It'll be great to see the line of Mini's again. Cheers, Tom

Mitch & VB, we live in Alden, just off Broadway ( Rt 20 ), so we will be taking 20 all the way across.

I'm hoping the rain will stop by then. I have Quack Quack Jack & Quack Quack Jill with me, so they'll be coming along for a trip on the track!

Looks like I will be sitting this one out also. I am going to be busy all weekend. I can't wait to move closer to Rochester since most activities seem to be closer to that area. This summer I should be closer.

I'll be attending. I went twice last year and to a driving school and it was a blast. Too bad I won't be able to lower my suspension and put on the Yokohama Parada Spec-2 tires in time.

Ahhh, zee plot thickens! Mitch, you can't sit this one out. Dnr....hmmmmm, what do you think about VB hauling your daughter about? Does she want to ride with him TO Watkins Glen or AT Watkins Glen?? Won't Pappi be lonely without her? What's a Pappi to do???

Cathleen, do you have to strap the ducks in so your seat belt alarm doesn't go off? It'll be great to see them; I'm sure they've got some great stories since I saw them at Letchworth last fall.

In any event, as long as Ted stays operative, we'll be at Wegmans at 0830. Sunday's gonna be a hot one so if anyone has a fridge they can bring, Ted would be grateful. She doesn't like the heat any more...

Looking forward to it!

Welcome jrbond! I took 20 most of the way between Buffalo and Canandaigua a few years ago but I can't remember how twisty it was. Seems like not very. In any event, have a safe trip over!

MJB, you have heard of cell phones, right? Just hasseling you. Sorry you won't be able to make it; looks like a good day and a good turnout. Hope your husband's trip goes smoothly.

We are going to make every effort to.  I may potentially have to work that day, and I haven't been feeling all that well, so like Ted, it depends on whether I'm having a good day or bad day.

Kim

I know you are teasing.  That is all we have are cell phones as it is his does not work in Tokyo or  in South Korea so he is taking mine and leaving me his.  I know no excuse for me not to go expect for lack of sleep.  I will probably not sleep till I hear from him.

Well, it will be interesting to see just WHO DOES show up on Sunday. I can't believe it's going to be 80 degrees (+/-) on Sunday! Thanks for the offer of the fridge Nicole, but I don't know if Ted's going to be able to do those temps. We're going to have to find a babysitter for her. That's a bummer--Ted was really looking forward to seeing her fan club...

Holly, I think you and Brian better find a way to get there. You don't want to upset the MINI Gods, I'm sure. Ted has a good excuse. You can't work on a nice sunny Sunday--that is just wrong!

MJB, that is a shame! I do understand what you're saying but this sounds like a golden MINI opportunity. We're going to stay with family near Canandaigua the night before or I'd suggest we could MINIvan over together. You live on the 'right end' of I-86...

Believe me, I'm doing everything that I can to be able to come; however, you can't fight city hall (or something like that).  I'm trying to catch up on my work (I've missed a few days due to illness), and my client is filing their annual report next Wednesday, so if I have to work on Sunday, there's not much that I can do.  I'm working extra late every day, and will be working on Saturday (and relying on my wonderful hubby to wash Pepper while I'm working on Saturday), so hopefully I'll be able to spare the time.  Also, if I have another episode of illness, I won't be able to come, but we'll see about that.

After all that, you deserve to do whatever you choose on Sunday Holly (if you get to choose).

Hope you feel better!

I am tempted to go Kim but my 13 year old son has a big paper due on Monday and I had flu beginning of this week and now some sinus thing going on.  I know excuses excuses.

The weather is going to be beautiful

Holly, I hope you're feeling better, and that pesky work won't keep you away. For all of those of you who can make it, it looks like it ought to be a nice weekend to be out! (Note to self- bring an umbrella to ward off the evil spirits, and don't forget the sunblock!)

To those who can't make it, enjoy the weekend & hopefully you can join us another time.
