hey mark, I don't think you'd be able to keep up with Holly up front.....especially if you're still driving like an old man biggrin.gif

Do you go all the way up Thursday, or only partway? I need to review my MOT protocol ('specially since I've never been)...

it is only about 9 hours away. So it is a leave in the am arrive in the pm deal. The other option is the trip to Yankee Candle to meet up with the Boston crew. We did that last year.

My only suggestion is to try and make it to Albany about 9-11amish. If that is too early for some let me know. I like to leave as early as possible to avoid traffic in that area. I would like to hear your thoughts and ideas as well for anyone caravaning with us on Thursday. Also we will have a spare GPS and radio for anyone still lost in the 90's =P

There has been a Western MA caravan at the Yankee Candle factory & store at South Deerfield MA, that meets up with the Boston crowd on 93 for the drive to the White Mtns. For the past 4 years, I've driven to S. Deerfield on Thursday, stayed at the Red Roof Inn (pet friendly as far as I know), which is right next door to Yankee Candle.

We've had a pretty good sized caravan, about 30 cars, and the Boston area crowd is about that size usually. We meet up with them at a rest area on Route 93 near the 51 mile mark, henceforth referred to as 'Area 51'.

Most likely I'll be doing this again.

There is also a run the week before called 'The Great Ice Cream Run', that will start around the Blue Ridge Parkway and will end near Minis On Top.

It's probably too soon for us to know whether or not it will work to leave Thursday. I think that would be my preference, but we have to get several things squared away beforehand. And of course, a lot hinges on ted; that will determine a lot for us.

My father and I are thinking about going, but we are going to stay at one of the nearby campsites with our tent. So if anyone else is interested in roughing it in New Hampshire let me know!

I will probably do the Yankee Candle caravan again, but I'm waiting to see how that plays out. I wish I could do the Ice Cream Run!

For anyone who isn't a member of the MOT mailing list, here is some important information about routes and maps for the weekend:

Date: Thurs, Apr 30 2009 11:36 am
From: Theo Matthias

Well, it's only two months away and the organizers are preparing all
the last minute details for this year's gala event!

An organizer (who shall remain nameless!) has frittered-away his
quality time developing MapQuest online driving routes for all the
MINIsOnTop festivities. Since maps will not be handed out at the
event, the organizers hope that you will review these routes and print-
out the ones you will need.

Routes are included for the feeder events on Friday: the Yankee Candle
Caravan, the Boston Caravan, and two different routes for the Area 51
Combined Caravan to the Attitash area. In addition, routes have been
developed to get you to and from the Attitash Area and the Loon
Mountain/Mt. Washington Base events taking place on Saturday. Finally,
the three Saturday afternoon driving events (the Kanc, Franc1 and
Franc2) all have online routes. Note that for the Saturday afternoon
drives, you should pick ONE of the three.

To access this PDF document, click on (or cut and paste) the link
below:

http://mot-announce.googlegroups.com/web/MOT%202009%20Event%20Maps.pdf?gda=tUG4E1UAAABHkA3AU8eSso3OYzlPCeaIY6GlH1E829Hb6xf9FbaMSdwZigeiHounD3KmclsYLq7vZBX-ipSOKFZFCJacL_NGHJ_FiG1oec6ngyrQwZquuxrtYix3qocOGWUY90Yyf_g&hl=en

GPS Users:

The start and end lat/lons are included for each route so you can
program the route into your own GPS. And, if you have a Garmin GPS,
see the note at the end of the PDF for instructions that allow you to
download the MapQuest routes directly to your compatible Garmin unit.

REMEMBER: THESE ROUTE MAPS WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE IN PRINTED FORMAT;
YOU SHOULD PRINT THEM AHEAD OF TIME!!!!

See You Soon!

The Organizers

Thanks for the reminder Nicole. I remember reading that what seems like a looong time ago but it's probably not a bad idea to leaf through that stuff again.

Thank you! I am so excited for this. Are we going to set up a meeting spot to motor down to YC or anything? I know we are going to head out Friday morning I think.

I believe that there is a thursday group going directly to the Bartlett NH area and a Friday YC group.

Mark, Cammie and I will be going up on Thursday and would love to MINI-van with anyone else going. We're pretty flexible time-wise.

I just found out I will be attending a work related program in Providence RI that ends on Thursday night...unfortunately....we missed the registration deadline.

Is there any chance there are things we (yep Dennis is going with me) could be included in if we decided to venture toward NH for the weekend?

pc.gif  will be waiting anxiously.

Yellowmini suggested that too...I've sent a request...

If worse comes to worse we will sit by the roadside and wave as everyone goes by.

THANKS!

Hello MINI friends!

In just a few short weeks, we'll be heading up to Mt. Washington, NH for MINIs on Top. It's been a while since we've all chatted about this, but wanted to start getting the organization wheels in gear.

My understanding is that there is a group that is driving directly to NH on Thursday, a group that will be going the Yankee Candle Route (leaving on Thursday, spending the night in MA, and driving up to NH on Friday with other MINIs), and perhaps some that may be in the "other" category (last year, we went up on Friday with one other car).

Last year, the Rochester area folks met up at the Hampton Inn/TGIFridays parking lot in Victor, which is right of the Thruway and 490. That seemed to work out pretty well. I'm certainly open to other suggestions. Since it's a rather long drive, we met up at around 8:00 a.m., and got there at about 6:00pm or so (with a stop in VT for lunch). I don't see a reason why all of those who are travelling on Thursday and would like to drive with other MINIs couldn't all start out together, and then part ways between those going to Yankee Candle and those that are going directly up to NH.

Please let me know if you are interested in joining up for the drive!

Holly, I think we're interested in the Thursday drive with you renegades! Ted says we should run with the wild pack!

I've got to check on rooms for Thursday night. We won't be staying another night at the place we booked when Ted was going to be physically present. We're keeping that for MOT, but we'll need to find some place for Thurs. We've kind of been in a daze these last few weeks. I'll be Johnny-on-the-spot and figure out which way's up right quick.

Wild pack is spot on! Although Nicole (aka Trixie) should civilize us somewhat. Awesome! So we'll see you in two short weeks!

I'd just like to say that I am so excited to get to spend the day with you guys rather than being at work. Our office is moving to a new location that day. Remind me to shake Ian's hand (or whoever picked the date)!

Also, are we going to have a cookout on Friday evening?
