windshield wiper motor???

Help!!!  This is my first winter with my 2005 Mini.  Yesterday after work (mid-blizzard) I went out to get the car warmed up & start brushing the snow off.  By some act of God, when I started the car the windshield wipers started moving.  They moved about 4 inches or so, and STOPPED.  Haven't moved on their own since.  I cleared everything out, nothing seems to be frozen.  The wipers will move by hand with some gentle pressure.  It just seems weird to me because there wasn't THAT much snow on the windshield, I wouldn't think it was enough to cause any problems.

So I'm REALLY hoping someone can tell me there's a fuse or something stupid to check, and I HAVEN'T blown the motor . . . sounds expensive and I'm really not up for a trip to Buffalo this week.  (Speaking of, why the hell haven't they put a MINI dealer in Rochester, anyway??  There are tons of us here for goodness sake!)  Any info would be appreciated.  Thanks!!

I saw a similar thread on MINI2 recently (haven't found it again yet, but will keep looking) where the problem was the relay switch and not the motor. Might have to be seen by the dealer to fix, though you could also check with Craig Autometrics downtown (325-3337), they did tire & brake work for me Friday, and they are foreign car specialists.

If it isn't the fuse, try disconnecting your battery for about 15 min. Maybe there is a safety shut off and the computer just needs to be reset.

Yeah, in the daylight between snow showers I got to look into it a little more.  Fuses look good.  Relays appear to be okay, you can hear it click.  I will try disconnecting the battery . . . couldn't hurt.  Though I have a feeling I'm headed towards a new motor.  Merry Christmas to me, eh?  Thanks for your input!
