RE: Donate toys for the holidays?

I am IN! Thank you, YellowMiniNY, for the e-mail to help unleash my holiday spirit. I will start to collect toys and I will be happy to participate in the caravan of Minis. My S has 4 new tires and is as "winter-ready" as she gets! biggrin

This sounds like fun!

Hey Chris--sorry to hear about your brother-in-law. That's got to be tough for everyone. All of us yaehoos in WNY send our best to you and yours! Be careful on those all-seasons; don't end up in the bed next to your BIL!

Mitch, Bagpiper and Tara, Great to have y'all on board. I will have a poll posted soon so we can firm up a time. Mitch, good question about the place to 'wash up', though I don't want tedscar to freeze up afterward so the toys might just have to be delivered a little road-worn...

Looking forward to seeing you all--Thanks!

Welcome 16!

Date is 12/20. Time will be decided by poll very soon, but I have to make a phone call to the Toy Fund Pirate tomorrow morning to make sure our times will mix with theirs.

Thanks for your help!

In regards to a place for a car wash, I know of a self-wash place right down the street from my house, but am not familiar with other places around town. I tried to look up online, but wasn't able to find car washes that people can do themselves. That being said, I'm more than happy to offer up my digs as a meeting point; I am approximately 11 miles east/southeast of downtown Rochester. We can also look into meeting places in Victor, as it is a central location off the Thruway for those coming from points east, south and west.

I will plan on meeting at your place and I can baby up Oblio before we head on. Victor would be good too, and I know there is a wash there.

Folks, sorry if this didn't make it through the translation, but we're not delivering to the hospital.

Instead we are delivering directly to the Pirate Toy Fund Headquarters. It's not quite as fun as delivering to the hospital but Gary at PTF set up a special day for us to round up the fire engine and the MINIs and deliver toys. Their address is below.

I am posting a separate thread for people to vote on their preferred time to deliver. (Brian, I'm sorry it's a Saturday. I was hoping you could make it but I know it's a busy day for you. Maybe next year??)

Pirate Toy Fund
1453 East Main Street
Rochester, NY 14609

See companion "VOTE" thread to select a time!

OMG! It's alive! This thread is turning into a monster. Who would have thought. We Miniacs are a crazy bunch. Have got the Firetruck approved! But I don't think we need to fill it up with toys. And no the firetruck is not going to be given as a toy. I think the city will get a little mad at me/us. LOL.
Here is the truck and firehouse.

OK all, now there's a companion thread where people (or their dogs) can vote for their best time. Please do so by the 16th!

Wherever else we might gather beforehand, the VOTE thread is for a time to meet at MightyMo's firehouse before we "Motor" 0.8 miles to the Pirate Toy Fund. That will be our official meeting location for the drive to PTF.

Any other meetings beforehand (or after) are great but I didn't want people to get confused about what "meeting" meant. You know how it is with some words!

Yes, Welcome Blue Bomber! Glad you're going to join us!

Here is what I came up with, feel free to use it.  I am going to print it and place it on the area MINIs as well as try to hang it up around campus.

What is really cool is we can code name it MGB!

Tedscar suggested I change MINI Cooper Club to be MINI Club of WNY, I am going to make the change tonight. Please let me know if there is anything else that could be worded better, and if there are any spelling/typo/grammar changes that need to be made.

Chris and Mitch--great job with the flyers / posters--THANKS!

Everyone, I am giving people until December 16 to vote on the meet / delivery time. I guess if we can all be patient, hopefully everyone who's participating will have voted by then.

Thanks again for your help!

Only 10 votes so far. I voted did you? GO to this thread that Tedscar made to  VOTE. Remember the military gave their lives so that MINI workers could give thier lives to make the MINIs and we could have the right of choice to vote. OK...I get it...but it does make sence.
-s
Dumpnrun - It is only a work truck!...lol...But if you think that is something, you will love the new one next summer. Engine 12 is going to be the citys first foam/water pumper. Need that foam tank system now for the new gasoline. And just to let you all know. If there is ever a tanker of ethanal 95 that tips over in fire like the one on Ridge Road a few  years ago, the ONLY way that we will put it out is to cover the area near by and let it burn out. There is not enough AR-AFFF foam in Monroe county (or maybe even western NY) to handle it.

You know MightyMo its kind of weird that you bring up the tanker on Ridge road. I was a tanker driver for that company. So i understand rollovers and how it can be done at 5 mph. Enough of that. I would like to throw out a question on who would be interested in meeting for lunch or a place to get together and hang out before we go to the fire station. Or maybe if not lunch dinner after words. A mall, fast food, diner,????

Scott, I'm guessing our admission tickets come with a tour of the fleet at Engine 12, right? But maybe we should wait until next summer when the latest & greatest arrives? (Plus, we'd get another MINI adventure out of the deal!)

I think we're up for dinner pretty much anywhere the late afternoon / night of the 20th. Personally, I'd prefer not mall or fast-food, but we're probably not too fussy. We'd have to make arrangements for Ted 'cuz we don't want her to have to wait in the car too long, but that's doable for us.

I am letting the vote play out until the 16th, unless Gary the Pirate tells me he's got to know before then. Our weather has been so nuts. We get feet of snow, then it rains, then cold again, then rain. I actually need a bit more time before I vote just to see how we'll deal with the weather and the trip. Here's a picture of what was on the roof last weekend...

Kim,

Holy Cow!! Where the heck do you live, Siberia? I can't believe that you have that much snow!!!

On a good note, I have ordered Pepper's snow tires, so pretty soon she'll be fearless!

We have been getting hit like that here in Fredonia too. After the snow we had Friday I can make to recommendations, buy a MINI they are great in the snow, and buy Blizzaks.
