How do you feel about having a flyer made up (I will do it) to post and or put on other MINI's who are not in this club yet?

I think that a flyer is a great idea. I have sent out an e-mail to my coworkers and friends/family about it as well. Let me know if you would like for me to forward it to you to use as a starting point.

Dan Ives and I spoke briefly today and we'll talk further tomorrow. The Director from the Pirate Toy Fund didn't call me today so I'll try him again tomorrow.

I appreciate what you folks are already doing and will be sure to report back here once I have a little more info. Mitch, I agree a flyer advertising this effort sounds great! Holly, would you send me a copy of your flyer too (email on my info page). Maybe I can dig up a little local help contributing as well.

Scott and everyone else; haven't forgotten about you--just waiting for a few more pieces to fall in place, but it looks like we're a go!

p.s. I will confirm with 'Gary the Pirate' what day / time we should shoot for if that helps anyone with deadlines for toy collections from coworkers, etc.

ALRIGHT! SOME PROGRESS!

I just talked a couple times with Gary (the Happy Pirate) at the Pirate Toy Fund. He is really into this and grateful for our interest and participation.

He called Channel 10 News and they'd like to do a separate story on this with us delivering to the Pirate Toy Fund' Main Office on December 20th! Scott, Gary told me there's room for a fire engine on the street in front of their office and if we could get however many MINIs filled with toys and several MINI support vehicles (other MINIs of course), Gary and Channel 10 thought it would be a great story.

They need to know what time would work for the group so I'll put it out to you all. I know some of you work Saturdays, but it would be great to have as many of us as possible. So please post (too late in the thread to do a poll?) when it would work for you to attend on Sat. 12/20 from the following times: 8 - 10; 10 - 12; 12 - 2; 2 - 4; 4 - 6.

~ 7 PM. I just got in from snow duty and found that I had missed a call from Dan Ives at Towne. He said Towne would like to participate; they're just not sure how / to what extent at this point. He and I will try to make contact Monday afternoon, but I think we've got enough to get started. Hopefully Dan can come up with something special from Towne to get them in on the act!

I work until 4:00 (16:00) that day at Engine 12 at Wisconson & E. Main. It could be a good meet up place for the MINI's and then we all go the 4 blocks up East Main st. to the toy warehouse if that sounds good. Could get Ch. 10 to film the line coming up MAIN. And it would be my pleasure to drive the fire truck for the club. It would just have to be at 3:30 or sooner due to shift change at 4:00.

My coworkers are coming through, and I'm starting to stockpile a good bunch of toys. Hopefully, we'll be able to fill more than one MINI Cooper!

Holly, that is excellent! I will put word out to my many contacts and try to bring a boatload as well ('course there has to be room for Jill and Ted too).

Since we aren't delivering until the 20th, that will give "some of us" a little more time to collect.

I sent PMs to everyone that had expressed interest that hadn't posted recently. Hopefully we'll get some more takers and have about a dozen MINIs so Scott doesn't feel like he's wasting his time in that fire engine.

Is anyone else getting the snow we are? We've probably got about four feet now!

I am in as long as it is after 3 on the 20th. I have two friends that have MINIs and they said they would like to be involved as well. Just need to know if people are meeting anywhere first or just meeting at the main office. If so, just need the address for it. Don't need it today just before the 20th = )

A BIT MORE PROGRESS: I talked with Dan at Towne yesterday. He expressed Towne's desire to help out with the toy drive. Thought maybe they could send a car or two to bolster our numbers. He was more than willing for Towne to be a drop-point, but said they couldn't pay for advertsing that fact. I encouraged Dan to think about how they could partner with us and said I'd do the same. Please, all of you, help my feeble brain cells. Towne basically needs a low / no cost way to help us, but they're into it!

I'm still waiting to hear from more folks about when to make the delivery. From the responses so far, it's sounding like afternoon will work best. Gary said just to give him enough notice that Channel 10 could get lined up. Scott suggested we meet at the fire house a few blocks from the Pirate Toy Fund. Sounds good to me but in the next couple weeks we'll need to nail down the details. Thanks everyone!

We're going out toy-shopping tonight. Nothing like a lake-effect snow advisory to bring out that holiday spirit in me.... biggrin

I do know that SPD's car is 100% of the road and as far as Trixie well lets just say that the mini gets no salt I think it was a honda I saw she is using for the next few mos.

Well, we did quite a bit of shopping last night. Most our purchases (three full carts) was in the pre-school to early elementary age class, I guess. It was a great window for shopping, even though the sales hadn't started up yet. There was almost no one in the stores and inventory was overflowing. We may go out again, but this will certainly take up all the room we'll have available when transporting ourselves and Ted to Rochester in tedscar!

As for participation, I hope as many as possible will join us for for the toy delivery. Hopefully, we'll have a good weather window and everyone can bring their MINIs out of hiding for a good cause! Please join us and (continue to) encourage others!

Anybody else starting to get toys yet? Did you end up extending your deadline Holly? I have a pretty full (not completely full) MINI from my shopping soiree the other night. I'm probably going to have to make a separate run to get the toys up there or there won't be room for Jill and Ted on the 20th!

Can we generate a little enthusiasm for the project? I think having a dozen MINIs this year would be a great showing, but I haven't heard a peep from some of the folks who originally said they'd be on board for this. Let's rally and show the Pirate our MINI pride, eh?

I did extend the deadline, and have been collecting quite a few toys. I'm also looking into getting snow tires for Pepper, so that I can drive her that day (assuming that it will snow, which it probably will).

Given that I have a convertible, I probably have close to a car load (but still room for more plus hubby!)

That is quite a sacrifice you're making to bring Pepper out for the event--I am mucho appreciado! I'd say we'd all chip in on the snow tires...but I know that won't happen...so I'll just say thanks! It will be great to have you and hubby and all the toys! I think this will be a great event...what a great cause! I look forward to seeing you there!

Sorry Kim I havent been on to much ive been running back and forth to Strong. My brother inlaw is top on the list for a heart transplant

and weve been keeping his spirit up.Its a waiting game now. Then tonight the winter storm took me 3hours to get home. I m still planning on coming. The allseason tires worked pretty good but i kept my speed down to 20 or 30. Thats it for now. seeya

Ok tomorrow for real I will be able to work on the flyer I will post it somehow here. I am excited for this, I won't be able to donate much due to limited funds from being a newly married graduate student. But I will do what I can and deff. show up for support.

One vain thing that hasn't been discussed... is there a place to wash are cars up before the tv appearance?
