The Amazing Maize Maze!!!!

Hello everyone,

For any of those members who are interested, it would be nice to go to the "Amazing Maize Maze" in Walworth (east of Rochester) this coming Sunday, October 19th.  For those who have never experienced a maize maze, there is a farm that cuts a maze through rows of corn, and you try to get through the maze in the fastest amount of time.  One of my coworkers went a couple of weekends ago, and it took her about an hour and a half, so it's quite challenging!  The maze is at Longacre Farms in Walworth, and this year's theme is "Fit to be amazed".  Check out their website at:  http://www.longacrefarms.com/   This shows an aerial picture of the maze.

The hours are from 10:00 a.m to 4:00 p.m., and the have cider, donuts, ice cream, pumpkins, and a pretty cool looking bouncy pillow thing (think bounce house on steroids).  Or, we could also "mini-van" from Longacre farm to Schutts (which isn't far away) for yummy apple cider.  I think that Mark also suggested a drive along the lake, which would be fabulous.

VeganBrian and CaliBean will hopefully have their new MINIs by then, and it would be great if you could come out and show off your new family members.  Let me know if you are interested in coming, and we'll have to iron out the exact plan (time, meeting place, etc.).   Also, since we live close to the maze, I might be convinced to have everyone over and make my homemade mac and cheese.  biggrin

Puh-leaz!!!!  I've driven back and forth to Buffalo so many times, I think that Pepper's tracks are set in the pavement on the Thruwaysmile.  If you want to be driving all day, no better way than to come out to Ro-cha-cha and meet some fellow club members.  biggrin

Nothing says you have to take the T-way Brian. These days, if I can make the time, I'm as likely as not to find alternate roads that give a little more "exciting" ride. But Holly's right on, it's a hop, skip, and a jump from Buffalo to Dorchester on the straight-ride route!

Do you think animals (dogs) are taboo in the Maize Maze?

And what time are we thinking of meeting?

One place I have passed by but have always wanted to stop at is Earthtones Coffee house on the corner of Empire & Bay Rd in Webster.

http://www.earthtonescoffee.com/
1217 Bay Rd.
Webster, NY 14580
(585) 671-3060

How about 11 am, or noon if the western folks need more time?

When I was up at 590 & 104 yesterday, there is a lot of construction going on now, which might make the Kings Highway to Webster part difficult, but maybe we could do that at the end of the day, if we can find our way out of the maze?

noon would be more realistic for me. i live a little further then buffalo. i live near eden going out to springville. hehe. buffalo from my house is about a 20-25 minute drive. i dont mind though. i need to break in the mini so i can drive it a little harder. i gotta be calm for the first 1500 miles haha. those miles will be on there in a week. haha. especially cause i wanna drive it alot before winter hits ;(. need to order my blizzaks. anyways i will most likely see you all. anyone wanna meet up somewhere since i have only been to rochester once and i got lost last time hehe.

WHOS ALL GOING?!

I emailed 'em and they said dogs are allowed on the farm, but not in the maize. Ted's not going to like this...

If anyone wants to leave their doggies at my house (as long as they won't eat my cats) while going through the maze, they are certainly more than welcome to. I live no more than two minutes down the road from the maze.

Venno,

When are you coming back to the states? Do you think that you'll end up back in Jersey? We'll take pics for you!

OK, we're in...sort of. As things stand right now, we're bringing Ted so can't do the maze. If it takes 1.5+/- hours to get through it, it's probably not practical for one of us (Jill or I) to wait outside the maze that whole time.

Jill hasn't driven the MINI yet (OK, I do have a few issues weirdface , but would prefer not to get into all of them here!). There is that possibility that she and ted could go somewhere and hang out since she doesn't want to do the maze, but maybe it makes more sense for us to meet up with you all between 1:30 & 2 PM (assuming you're starting at noon). We'd really like to join in the reindeer games but have to juggle our little dog's life in with ours. After all, it's tedscar, so leaving her behind just wouldn't be right. She seems to like MINI gatherings...

I have done the maize and its nothing fantasmagoric for me. I could hang with Cammie and let her walk around and sniff things for a while.

The good thing about the maze is that you can bail at any time if you feel like it's taking too long, so we could potentially divide into two groups to see who can do the fastest times, and have one group doggy sit while the other goes through the maze.  I don't want to discourage anyone from coming because they want to bring their doggie friends!  biggrin

I don't think we're going to do the maze, but we're looking forward to meeting up with you afterward. We'll plan on showing up around 1:30. If you need us to call 9-1-1 to get you out of the maze, we'd be happy to oblige...

Which reminds me, if anyone has 2 way radios, that is always fun to have on the drive. I have a couple extra if anyone doesn't have one. The general Mini channel is 7, subchannel 21 (except for the New England folks who use 7, subchannel 0, but they know they're a little different!)

Ok, so I want to solidify the plans for Sunday if I can. I'm thinking that if folks are coming from various directions, perhaps we can meet in the Eastview Mall area around noon. We can then drive to the Longacre Farm, and do the maze. It sounds like there is also interest after the maze to go to Schutts farm for cider and donuts. I also plan on making some fabulous mac and cheese if anyone wants to stay for dinner. I've been staring at the map for a while to come up with more driving, but I'm coming up blank. I welcome any suggestions.

Also, can those who plan on attending confirm with me so that I have an idea of the turnout?

I'm super excited to get lost in the maze, and use my analytical skills to try to get out.

Lake Road in Webster is a nice drive, twisty with Lake views.

Right now, we're coming, but plan on meeting you out at Longacre Farm. Probably can't commit for dinner at this point (it's one of my 'problematic' family traits), so if you need a head count, probably ought to count us out. Thank you very much for the offer though.

Do you need me to bring a calculator for your analytical escape from the maze or are you sufficiently prepared?

Since I've heard nothing to the contrary, I'll be planning to meet those who are coming to the Maize Maze at the K-mart Plaza in Victor tomorrow (Sunday) around noonish. The K-mart Plaza is on Route 96 across the road from Eastview Mall. VB, for you, if you are taking the Thruway, get off on exit 45, and right after the toll booths, take the first exit for Route 96, turn right onto 96, and the K-mart Plaza will be on your right hand side (there is a stop light at the entrance; I believe it would be approximately the third stoplight, but look for the sign). I have planned to take some twisty roads from K-mart to the Maize Maze, where we can have fun for a while, and then go to the Schutt's apple farm for cider and donuts. Also, Cathleen suggested a drive along the lake for those who might be interested.

I hope to see my MINI friends tomorrow!
