The Autocross at BIMP was a blast! Tons of MINIs since it was MINI day (thanks Towne MINI!!!).
For those of you who don't know, the Genesee Valley BMW Club (http://www.gvc-bmwcca.org/) puts on Autocross days during the year, three in a parking lot at RIT and three on the go-kart track at BIMP (Batavia International Motorsports Park -- http://www.bataviakarting.com/).
On Sep. 6, it was held at BIMP and it was the most fun I have had driving my MINI! Met lots of people and just had a blast! The weather wasn't great, but it never rained, so didn't slide off the track (too much
The track is really wide if you are driving a MINI. You shift into second at the start and never change gears. Redline it going up the long straingt (~75mph in my car). But it is mostly corners, so you learn a lot about how well your car can handle.
This is definately something I will keep track of on my calendar for next year.
Ditto! The driving in the video was not to bad. Got the tires to make a little noise.

I took my son to the track and got in two runs. I never did get a picture. If anyone has a picture of #55 (Hyper Blue w/white and Jacks) I would appreciate it being posted. We had a great time and I want to do it again!!!!!!
Thanks Towne Mini, we really appreciate the fact you take such good care of us customer.
Any pictures would be appreciated!

WOW, perfect! I was hoping you had my pictures still and that somehow we would cross paths again. I could not have had a better time. I want to know when we can do it again.... I'm ready to sign up today and race now, all I need is a new set of numbers for the old "double nickel, #55". Thank you for you effort, I really appreciate it.

Hey, has anyone heard of NASA or participated in any of their events? I saw something about them in AutoWeek and it sounds like that might be a nice step up from autocross but still no danger. The one problem is that they are at Mid Ohio.

Has there been any talk of doing this again? I am looking forward to trying it again. I thought it was just the right kind of racing, something I've wanted to do all my life. I can't wait for the weather to break and then go looking for my own helmet to wear.

NASA ya I would love to go to space. Can MINIs do that too? lol sorry had to. MINIs at the BIMP is an annual event, check out the Genesee Valley BMW Club (http://www.gvc-bmwcca.org/) they have I think 6 autocross events each summer.
The local BMW Club offers three driving schools at Watkins Glen and one at Mosport in Canada each year. Drivers spend time on the track in groups relative to their experience. We have lots of track time and focus on training everyone to have better high performance driving skills safely.
The two weekend schools offer a social party at the track on Saturday night so you can unwind and meet others that are participating in a relaxed environment. Lots of fun and excessive bench racing often takes place!
The Genesee Valley BMW club offers the ultimate driving school experience no matter what you drive and many programs nationwide have copied our format.
More details and signup for an event can be found at http://www.gvc-bmwcca.org/default.aspx
