Winter is coming - Tire question

It is still early but we are just starting to look into the winter tires. I know about the Blizzaks and the Tire Rack package for the 15" set with wheels is at 680.00 right now. The 15" is a size down. How much difference is the size going to make and what should I expect from the gauges (tach & speed)? And second are the sensors. If I go without them what happens in the car?
Thanx in advance.

Make SURE that the rims will fit on your Cooper S. The 07 + generally require 16" rims to clear the larger brake calipers. Some people have made the 15" work by making sure the weights were placed far inside the rim. If it were me I wouldn't add a possible issue to your car. Just get the 16" snows and rims if you can.

my 2 cents

Good point. Then we do not have to worry about the lower height, miss-matched speed and more hard work to the drivetrain. I agree with you on the 16" issue.

Has anyone had first hand experience with the Tire presure M.S. without using the wheel sensers. The cost is another 200. What goes on in the car if we do not install these in the wheels?

if you do not install the sensors then you just deal with an annoying caution light displayed and the warning on startup...no biggy

Be carefull when going to 15" tires and wheels.
Smileee has a set and the biggest thing I noticed is a clearence issue.

Smaller tires lower the car.

I was going to go with the all season radials that came with the mini this year. Then next spring get some nice rims and tires for the summer. Has any one used the allseason radials yet in the winter? CJ

Dnr--fair amount of discussion of pros / cons of dedicated snows on this thread.

http://www.activeboard.com/forum.spark?forumID=71633&p=3&topicID=16783393

This was one of my major concerns about using the MINI for a daily driver before I ordered my MINI. Most that responded to my questions, from New Hampshire to Colorado, stated that with a set of snow tires, the MINIs were great in the winter.

They have said that they were running at full 3 shifts, 24/7.There has to be a pull from other markets or they could have converted the convertable line over since they shut it down a while ago. BMW has also said that they would not build a new line. Great for us but....with hope they will not open another line and flood the market.
