well the R56 engine has direct injection so you will hear the injectors making a bunch of noise. It may sound like loud ticking.

my wife's R56 sounds like a deisel when cold. It also had the cold start issue from too short of a drive to work (Ice building up on TB). You can certainly take a listen to our R56. It is not a quiet engine to say the least.

I wouldn't say I've ever heard a noise that I'd describe as metal to metal. If you can get to Towne (or whichever dealer is closest to you) to take a tech for a drive to demonstrate the noise to them, that will probably be the best way to make sure there isn't something seriously wrong with your engine.

Nicole, come on now.... you are full-on girl when it comes to your car. You have no idea when something goes wrong with it unless there is a huge flashing light telling you so or the car won't run.

I seem to remember that I was thinking the same thing the first week we had our Mini. If you remember I could not even see the oil on the stick. But after posting here and being set straight I went back out checked the car over, sounded normal ticking and used clean white cloth to find the car was right with the oil too. Then had to come back here with tail between my legs shaking my head. Thats when I learned a new respect for these cars.

As far as the cat and mouse fight here, it's like I said before...."better then TV" and yet no blood like the bar fight I had to help break up last night. Nothing like us 40 and overs drinking. Hmmm...that gives me an idea ... hey Klowncrr this beer is for you.

If you think it's a problem take it to your dealer. An '07 should still be under warranty unles you have a gajillion miles on it, so take it in to set your mind at ease!

***************Don't forget this. ***********
Anyone who buys a new MINI or has purchased it new in the past 30 days (might be 90 days) can get an exstended warranty from an auto insurrance comp. for 30.00 a year. Goes to 7 years 100,000 miles. Our insurance is with the "gecco" people. Other insurance caompanies may offer something like it too. Never hurts to call yours and ask. So the way I look at it the engine could blow up at 6 years or 80,000 and I get a new engine!!!!

thats a really good idea. Ill have to check with my insurance company once i get my mini cause i know that warranty would be worth it. especially that cheap!! 30$ a month is NOTHING.

I called my insurance company they do not and they are a major company.  Shame on them because one of the agents has a wrap around Mini cooper it was in the MC2 magazine.

I think I need to change insurance companies. What insurance company is offering the extended warranty?

I have to admit Geico insurance rates are definitely better than the one that I have now and I made sure the same deductibles etc..... The only issue my hubby had was not a local agent in Olean. I think Geico is the only insurance company that offers Mechanical Breakdown Isurance not sure yet I need to do a search.

I saved a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to Geiko.. about 250$ to be exact.

Did you know that Geico has already gone bankrupt once in NY. I wonder when
they will go belly up again. Past history is usually a good predictor of the future.

We just switched to Amica & saved a ton of money! If you have a good driving record, that's the way to go.

Does Amica still require a sponcer?

Geico stand for Government Employee Insurance Comp. So If any of you are a government employee and you have or or going to switch to them, make sure they know that you are a governmnet employee. I gained an additional 10-15% off after the quote and then put my wife as a rider not joint.

We pay a little over $600 every 6 months and that is with full coverage on both our vehicles and with my husband's speeding ticket and no he was not driving the MINI when he got the ticket. We have State Farm.

We are with Marcella Smith she is in Olean.  I used to work for State Farm before I had my son who is now 12.  I used to work for the State Farm agent Charlie Derwick who is now retired.
