Hi Guys, This forum was recommended to me by my friendly MINI service manager (Mark Huber at Towne MINI in Buffalo, NY). I'm located in Rochester, Upstate NY and am about to put my low mileage, like-new condition 2006 MCS-JCW up for sale. I'd prefer to sell it "locally" and preferably to an enthusiast who's familiar with the marque and the JCW branding/heritage etc. Mark said that it may generate some interest here. Also, please accept my apologies; I realise it's poor etiquette to make my second posting here a "for sale" pitch, I hope you guys don't mind. Full description and specifications are detailed below. To contact me: Please e-mail me at: gr8britwjh@yahoo.com Serious enquiries only please. Thanks! One owner from new (middle-aged, non-smoker), this car has been used primarily as a daily commuter covering 90% highway miles. It has always been run on quality premium-grade gas since new. I have never raced, auto-crossed, modified or abused this car in any way; it has never even been red-lined (honestly). It was carefully run-in according to JCW instructions (1250 miles at varying speeds up to 4.5k RPM). I have been driving manual transmission-equipped cars for the past 31 years, so clutch and gearbox etc. should be in tip-top condition. It has never been involved in any accidents or scrapes and all the paintwork is original and immaculate (protected with multiple coats of Zaino Z2 show car polish, lovingly applied by hand). It has absolutely no dings, scratches or paint swirls (never dealer detailed or washed) and has been cosseted and garaged since day one; it still has some of that new-car smell. The tires and wheels are also like new (Zaino protected front & rear since day one). The only blemish of note on the entire car are a few very small, almost imperceptible stone chips on the front bumper.
Since delivery, it has had four oil & filter changes, all performed by Towne MINI of Buffalo, NY (at 1133, 4826, 8594 and 12,583 miles) and the first bi-annual brake fluid flush (at 14,344 miles). The first dealer service (Inspection 1) is only due in another 12,600 miles (at time of writing, 08/28/2008). The EPA fuel economy estimates are 25 mpg (city) and 32 mpg (highway); currently it is returning 30.5 mpg (mix of city & highway) according to the on-board computer. Since new, I have never seen the average fuel consumption per fill-up drop below 27 mpg.
I have the title and all the original manuals, keys, customer order & delivery paperwork, dealer invoices etc. If you would like an independent expert opinion regarding the provenance and almost-like-new condition of this (Bill Harrisons) car, please contact Mark Huber, the service manager at Towne MINI in Buffalo NY, by e-mail (mhuber@towneauto.com) or by phone (716-505-2100 x 435). Mark has kindly agreed to do this for any prospective purchaser.
The car was optioned by me to minimize weight and take full advantage of the JCW performance upgrades so, no sunroof or heavy 17 S-Lite wheels, for example. In a similar vein, the car has ASC (All-Season Traction Control) and LSD (Limited Slip Differential), but not DSC (Dynamic Stability Control). So equipped, it copes admirably with snowy, winter driving conditions. In addition to the host of usual standard features (including ABS brakes, air conditioning, anti-theft CD/radio, power windows & door mirrors, remote keyless entry, coded engine immobilizer, split fold-down rear seats etc.) this particular car is equipped with:
John Cooper Works Tuning Kit (# S 9196). This official MINI upgrade package includes a replacement supercharger with smaller pulley & increased boost pressure; ported cylinder head for improved air flow; new exhaust system for improved air flow; bigger injectors & high-power spark plugs; upgraded engine management software (eliminates the annoying engine stumble problem common to many standard S cars); air filter box; JCW-badged silver intercooler cover; discrete JCW badges on front air dam and trunk;. As a result of these upgrades the JCW-equipped Cooper S outputs 207 bhp and 181 lb/ft torque compared to the 167 bhp and 162 lb/ft of a standard Cooper S; a significant and noticeable increase for such a lightweight car). An official JCW Certificate of Authenticity and a dealer JCW Registration Form are also supplied.
John Cooper Works Sport Brake Kit consisting of red-colored front calipers, larger front rotors and pistons and sport brake pads.
John Cooper Works Sports Suspension delivers a slightly more aggressive stance with a subtle 10 mm of lowering providing increased cornering, improved traction and reduced roll angle in corners as a result of stiffer (red-colored) springs and custom-matched shock absorbers (optimized to the curb weight of the customers car). Personally I think this also smooths-out the ride and removes some of the harshness inherent with the stock MCS suspension and runflat tire set-up.
Sport seats with half cloth/leather upholstery and adjustable lumbar support. These cloth-fronted seats hold you in place much better during spirited cornering than full leather seats. They are also hard-wearing and easy to keep clean (fronts are heated).
Limited Slip Differential.
16 X-Lite (MINI R84, silver) wheels equipped with 195/55R-16 all-season, runflat tires. These wheels are relatively lightweight and provide a comfortable yet sporting ride with copious amounts of grip (even during snowy Rochester winters).
Optional 17 Double-Spoke (MINI R99, grey) wheels in pristine conditionfitted with like-new (~ 6000 gentle miles) Dunlop SP Sport Maxx 205/45R-17 tires (non-runflat, high-performance summer tires; not suitable for sub-40F temperatures or snowy/icey conditions). These are not included in the $25,250 asking price and are being offered to the car buyer for an additional bargain-basement price of $750 (this is less than half the price paid when new. Each R99 wheel is 3.2 lbs lighter than a 17 S-Lite (MINI R85) wheel and the grey colour compliments the dark silver bodywork perfectly. They are also manufactured for MINI by BBS in Germany; top quality!). Purchased new from a MINI dealer a set of grey R99 wheels plus runflat tires will now cost you over $2,300.
Anthracite dash & interior surfaces.
Anthracite headliner.
Chrome line interior trim.
Multifunction Steering Wheel with cruise control buttons (plus CD/radio and cell phone control buttons).
On-Board Computer with features such as average & instantaneous mpg, current digital speed readout, miles remaining to next fill-up etc.
Xenon Headlights with power-wash feature.
Convenience Package comprising universal garage door opener, auto-dimming rearview mirror, rain-sensing automatic wipers and auto headlights.
Cold Weather Package comprising heated washer jets, heated mirrors and heated front seats.
Accessories included in price: Union Jack number plate frames front & rear (black surrounds), Union Jack valve stem caps, 4 wheel locks, S rubber front mats, S rubber trunk mat, sunshade, JCW key fob and paint touch-up stick (unused).
If youve been searching for an almost-like-new, low mileage, JCW-equipped MINI at an attractive price, look no further; this one would be hard to beat.
I'd suggest you consider posting it on Craigslist. I recently sold my '05 MCS / JCW using only that method. Take a lot of detailed pictures and post 4 of them on Craigslist and the remainder on some photo hosting web site (I used Picasa), Include a link to the photo site in the Craigslist ad.
I received a number of inquiries from that posting. Ultimately the car was sold sight unseen to a guy in New Mexico. He searched Craigslist via Google and discovered my posting. We spoke on the phone, he made a very good offer and the deal was made. The funds were wired to our bank account and he made arrangements to have the car transported via truck. All went amazingly smoothly.
Because of your own success with Craigslist, I posted it on there simultaneously with here. Had it not been for your recommendation I probably would have by-passed this route for fear of being scammed. Anyway, we'll see what happens (fingers crossed).
It's really difficult to price a MINI because of the almost limitless variety of specs possible; no two appear to be exactly the same. I hope the price of mine is reasonable and at least a good starting point for negotiations.
Surprisingly everyone who called and looked at the car was above board or at least seemed to be. I didn't receive any odd proposals of some strange way to purchase the car.
I did have one guy who was extremely interested but he offered a lowball price that after discussions he raised a little but that was a good bit lower than I was willing to go and he wasn't willing to go any higher. He tried to wait me out but there were two other offers with the one from New Mexico winning out.
The one issue I discovered is that the JCW package isn't worth it to a lot of people but to those in the know it's pretty desirable.
