135i pics

As some may recall we sold our '05 MCS/JCW which had replaced our '02 MCS which we had purchased when they were first available.  As I've mentioned we've purchased a BMW 135i.  A couple of people have asked to see pics. I won't waste bandwidth for those not interested, but if you are here's a link to a Picasa Web Album that contains a few pics.

Very nice looking car. What strikes me is the wedge above the rear window. Is that the antenna? It also looks like it may be of some function for minor stabilization?

Yes that's the antenna. Bit of an odd design but I think it must be stuffed, as it's the antenna for the AM/FM radio, the satellite radio, for the GPS portion of the BMW Assist option (their variation of OnStar). Plus there's a way to integrate your cell phone into the car and that thing then also serves as a booster for the cell phone. I don't think the zoomy design serves any stabilization purposes, just some sort of visual tweak.

It has 300 HP and 300 lb ft of torque from 1200 RPM to 6000 RPM and a 7000 RPM redline. We're still breaking the car in and need to hold it below 4500 RPM but this seems to be a very fast car. Also has a 50/50 weight distribution and as far as I can tell it handles very well. The stock run flat tires are a limitation, but we'll stay with them for a while.

Really a different feeling than the MINI. The application of power is much smoother which results in you going a lot faster than you think you are.

Who knew a simple few inches added to the ant. wedge would gain you 100 more HP. LOL kidding. It is kinda neat though. The style of the brakes and the lines of the car make it look like a sleeper. Hope you have fun and many years of enjoyment. - Just looked again. The lights...... ummm....I want them. and it came with an armrest....Uggg... I give up...you win! biggrin

Thanks for the nice words.

TiNY, I wasn't sure about getting a white car - always said they looked like a refrigerator. But I always liked the look of the Pepper White MINIs with a black roof, so we figured we'd try for the B & W look. The sports package blacks out the chrome surrounding the windows and I've painted the grills black. Not much chrome on the car - the tailpipes are a black chrome. I've gotten a few coats of Zaino onto the car which helps. Nowhere near as deep a shine as there is on a dark color, but it spiffs up OK. Another benefit of the white is that all the little swirls and scratches are nowhere near as obvious so I'm not going to have to spend so much time on the weekends washing, waxing, etc. Our lawn and neighbors will be thankful.

MM, yes the car is a bit of a sleeper as it doesn't look like all that much, but as I mentioned above the engine is fairly powerful. It's a twin turbo 6 with a very broad torque curve that's rated by BMW at 300 HP, but there are reviews around stating that rating is low and that it's more on the order of 320 - 325 HP (0-60 is marketed as 5.1 sec, but mags have tested it @ 4.7 sec)) Who knows.

One downside is that the front and rear tires are different sizes (F = 215/40-18 R = 245/35 - 18) so they can't be rotated.

Since we had such good experience with Towne with our MINIs we would have happily purchased this at Towne, but they essentially blew off the purchase offer we made (which was not much above invoice) where Holtz immediately accepted it. Given the response to our offer, it was obvious that Towne wouldn't be able to match or even come near to to the deal we got, so we stayed local. I'm just hopeful that the service at Holtz is somewhat equal to Towne. I've heard both positive and negative so time will tell.

Anyways, this is a MINI forum so I'll stop hogging things.
