RE: Finger Lakes Mini Run Sunday, August 17th, 2008

I'll be coming from Rochester. I'm going to see if I can get my brother to start his drive to Newark NJ by way of Geneva. :)

OK, recap on the important things:
Northerners (north of Watkins Glen), meet at Geneva Wegmans, 300 Hamilton St (5&20) at 9 am.

Drive to Watkins Glen (the scenic way)

Meet the Southern Tierers at the Ticket Office (3rd entrance off County Road 16), aiming for 11 am meet up.

Track Laps! $25 per car. No passing on the track! (They hate this & will throw you off.)

Short drive around the old Grand Prix course run through the village.

Picnic lunch at Watkins Glen State Park, middle shelter, accessible from the campground entrace off route 419. The Grand Prix course tour will end here. (not the main entrance on Route 14/Franklin St) State Park admission is $7 per car, but if you're going to support your state parks, this one is well worth it.

Bring a dish to pass ('Dish' can mean something you buy at Wegmans...)
I will have sandwich stuff (cold cuts, cheese, hummus), bread, rolls, condiments, beverages, paper plates etc. Salads, chips, desserts are welcome. (As I always say, if in doubt, bring dessert.)

2 way radios are very helpful, especially on the village Grand Prix course, and fun to have. We'll be on the 'Mini' channel 7, subchannel 21. If anyone has extra radios, bring 'em along and lend them to those who don't have one.

If anyone wants my cell phone # for last minute info or directions, send me a PM.

We'll be meeting in Rochester at 8 AM at the Highland Park Diner parking lot to head to Geneva, if anyone wants to 'pre-caravan'.

Hi There,

We will be coming from Syracuse and will plan on meeting with everyone in Geneva. I think we may have a few others in the area but so far no one has confirmed that yet. If anyone else is coming from CNY (we're in B'ville) drop us a line at nigillian@hotmail.com

Looking forward to our first Mini Run!!!!smile

I will be there. Coming from Buffalo the night before.
I attended for the first time back in April and it was much FASTER than I expected but a blast taking the turns that fast! Here I am 'just a Cooper' the first time on a track and I was between two JCW GP cars and the guy behind me actually passed me just as we were heading up the hill on the straight away! Don't think anybody saw him. I'm choosing a different spot in line next time.
Was hoping to get my new wheels and rims on by then but it won't happen, the stud/lug conversion kit hasn't arrived yet.

I think if you come up 14 north to 5 & 20 west at Geneva would be best, (17/86 to 414 or 14 north) from Binghamton. I guess it depends on how much construction there is on 81, but you'd be going a little farther north than you need to if you go all the way to Syracuse & then back west again.

But in a Mini, any road trip is a good road trip! :)

We will not be able to make this, my mom is in the hosptal with pneumonia and to be honest she wasn't responding very well a few days ago and we almost lost her but she is doing much better now. I just like to be close to home just in case she needs me.

Thanks to everyone who came out today to join in the fun. It was a perfect day for a drive, and a picnic! It was nice of WGI to decide to let us on the track after all...

Hey all--sounds like a great event! Sorry to have missed it, but y'all know the drill (my MINI isn't here yet). We seem to be chalking up numerous activities and events and I know my calendar will clear out once my MINI gets here to at least make some of them!

MJB, sorry to hear about your mom. Mine went through a similar bout a few years ago. I can totally sympathize with the anguish and hand-wringing you must be experiencing. I hope your mom recovers in short order and that all is well.

Thank you all for your concerns and prayers it has truly been a trying week for me.

How was the MINI run? It was a gorgeous day.

The hospital is having a tough time weaning my mom down from the oxygen. She is on a mask with 15 liters of oxygen and everytime they try to lower it down her oxygen levels go down. I am going to go see her this morning and hopefully there will be a change plus I have a sick husband in bed with the flu

To MJB - Hope all is getting better since our last conversation. As I can see your other half is down now. Still think of you all in prayers.

To the rest of you. I should have known better. As you know my son and I were going to drive to Tampa. Then becouse of the storm (Fay) we were going to fly. Now our flight has been canceled. The airline people say they will not fly into a Huricane. Why I just don't understand I told them. It's only wind and rain. And it may only be a Cat. 1. Heck, I've gone through 2 Cat 3's and stayed in New Orleans for a Cat 4. Boy that was dumb. Anyway should have just drove. We both took time off from work too. Wanted to go to Walkins Glen but nooooo, I need rest for the drive. UGG!!!!! evileyeSo all in all it was a very un-eventful past few days. Well next time... OMG I can't even think about whats going to happen then. I know. We WILL ONLY drive.

I couldn't make it either, so let's all get together somewhere this week or next in Rochester. Who's game?

You HAVE to wait until I get my MINI back!  I called them today, and they said that the body work was done, but it's going to take a couple of days to put the airbags in and reset the system, so they said probably Thursday or Friday of this week.

I was able to find out why my mom's oxygen level is so low, apparently she is not coughing and her lungs are pretty full. I spoke with her therapist and nurse. I spoke with my aunts and encouraged them to remind her to cough when they go see her.

Venno,

What's the extent of the damage? Also, I didn't know that your car has a name! :)

-The Bumper will have to be replaced, and there might be some internal damage, they'll let me/my sister know today...

Oh and....

-On the way to the Dealership to leave the MINI to be fixed, my airscoop flew off...what happenbed? well In my rush to change from the stock scoop (which my sister prefers) to the Carbon Uber scoop (which I prefer) I lost the 4 nuts....I thought that i could 'Click' the scoop into place and then drive the 30 minutes to the dealership and the air would hold it down till i could ask them for 4 metric nuts....100 feet after getting onto the highway....it flew off...I had a fun time telling the body shop guys why my airscoop is missing...They'll give me an estimate for it and I'll decide if i want to pay for a new stock scoop or just keep the Carbon scoop on...

The story of the name Kittty:

The first MINI my sister and I got was a black Manual 03 MC, we exchanged it 4 days later because My sister couldn't figure out stick- we never officially named it. the next MINI was  03 MC, My sister and her room mate came up with the name "Kitty" for the second '03 MC because the MINI Purrred and for a few other reasons that I'll only devulge over a few beers. but anyway when we got our third MINI we transfered the name, but since it was the third MINI we had, we thought, why don't we add an extra t to Kitty to distinguish it from Kitty, and so thats part of the history behind the name "Kittty"

Let me see if I understand this right. The stock scoop it the one that flew off and you still have the Carbon scoop? You just happened to lose the 4 nuts?
I think we know who won the scoop choice....l
