OBC Retrofit

Well I know this is possible, but can they do it at Town Mini?

It would be real nice. Here are the links to what I am talking about. First explanations of what people have been able to do.

http://www.northamericanmotoring.com/forums/showthread.php?t=103313

Second the instructions on how to do it.

http://motoringfile.com/howto/OBC.PDF

Has anyone done this, or can you do this for us Town Mini?

I don't know. I see other Dealers are doing it for free. What exactly does it do? Give you the option to program your own features? I have the stalk with the button on it and can see temp/speed. Maybe Mark from Towne will chime in.

I is an option, but I bought mine used and the previous owner did not opt. for it and I would really like it. It is just a nice feature and if I already have the equipment...

Sorry guys, across the hall covering for a BMW writer... i know i know. We have not performed that upgrade at this point in time. The installation is calling for 2 hours, and those directions from MINI are usualy a little short on time, I dont see this being for free. But being Towne's first time let me look into it and get back to you.

I am sorry to bear the bad news, but this is far from free. I would like to assume the few that have recieved this mod for free were taking delivery of a new car and it was a deal breaker saying i want the OBC, so the selling dealer mixed it in the price of delivery and made the deal. The parts alone are $175.00, after parts labor and tax coming to $471.00

Although you do have the equipment, well everything except for the directional stalk and temp sensor, we have to remove the bumper cover to install the temp sensor, steering column to install the stalk, dash and kombi to run the wires to the kombi, which is the gateway for everything. Then when done with the install program the car which is a standard 1 hour labor.

If you read through the post on:

http://www.northamericanmotoring.com/forums/showthread.php?t=103313

the people that have had this as a free service or fairly inexpensive (~1 hour labor) did not purchase the upgrade, but only needed the eighth step where the coding is done.

This is only true for those, like me, that have the OBC button on the stalk which switches to the outside temp.

I agree if I did not have the temp sensor, or the correct stalk I am looking at, at least $300 but I think you probably have the equipment to simply do the coding which I have read is as simple as hooking up the MINI OBD scan tool, toggle down to OBC and choose Enable.

I could stop by on Sunday if you are willing to give this a try.

We are not open on Sundays, and we are looking into performing this service, there are many things that have to be considered, one being the people that paid for that option as a stand alone for $200. I will keep everyone updated.

Ok thank you, I understand your concern for people that did opt. for it and did indeed have to pay. As I bought my Mini as a Mini Next car I did not have this option. I was excited to see that the hardware is already installed in my car, so it would at least be more possible than in other cases.

Thank you for taking the time to look into this.

We are now offering the service of programming this feature. After a few test runs, plan on being here for 45minutes to a hour when no other service is being performed, if other service is being performed it will add around 25 minutes to your visit. The charge will be $75.00 if all proper equipment is currently installed. The proper equipment being the stalk and temperature sensor, also if the parts are already there or being installed this is only available from 04' and newer. Thank you for bringing this to our attention, it is a newer option through version 26 software.
Mark

Thanks for taking the time to check this out. I will be getting this next time I bring it in, since I have a little work that needs to be done as part of my purchase.

Thanks again.
