Hi MJB...seeing the march 31 date here I would gather that you have been united with your MINI? I too am waiting for my clubman. I have not heard anything about any dates as the MINI-site said I would.

you mention something about calling "Ask Mini" can you fill me in on that? Are you enjoying your new ride ??? Any regrets or issues on equipment either ordered or not ordered?

No I have not been united with my MINI yet I actually go to pick him up on Friday 4/25 can't wait he arrived at Towne on Saturday 4/19 but I returned to work today and thought it would be best if I requested Friday off which I did so I have that day off.

Ask Mini is a phone number you call and give them your production number and they can tell you exactly where your mini is in the production stage the phone number is 866-275-6464 you can speak with a customer representative or listen to the automated stages.  It was actually quite helpful for me at times becaused I hated to bother my motoring advisor for every little question I had.

With me being new to the mini and all what does everyone use to wash and wax, polish there vehicle? What are the best products and what are the worst? My husband and I want to do it all by hand so I need the best products to buy to keep my mini nice and clean and shiny.

Hey, guys...just wanted to say hi. My wife and I are across the pond in the UK, and there are TONS of minis on the road here. We went to Oxford, but unfortunately couldn't find the mini factory :( We were hoping we might catch a glimpse of fields of minis. It would have been nice if we could have rented a mini as well, but we wound up with a Vauxhaul Corsa, which is really nice in it's own way, and has some mini-like features :)

But we'll be back to our Fletcher on Thursday night...it'll be weird getting in on the other side again.

RE: Cleaning / waxing products

Not to start a wax war but look on the various MINI boards for Zaino products and you'll find that they are pretty much universally used by those who are detailing fanatics. The first time you use these it takes a little time but subsequent applications go on pretty quickly. When using this stuff the trick is to use less rather than more (I've gotten 3 layers onto the MINI from 3/4 oz and still had a little left). The resulting shine is pretty impressive. Zaino is only available from the manufacturer, but delivery is very fast.

If you want to read up on the various waxes, sealants, etc from a group that is obsessed with detailing you should visit Autopia. There you can search for the various products and get pretty straightforward opinions about each.

I haven't used Prima as I still have a fair supply of Zaino stuff remaining, but that's supposed to be pretty good as well. I believe it takes less time to apply than the Zaino products but I don't know if it will last as long (Zaino is very durable).

I have heard great things about Zaino also.

What I have heard also is that using something like Hydro or another quality quick detailer is the trick so you are not applying a full wax job all the time.

It seems like all the products produce and awesome shine right then and there, the difference between turtle wax and Prima/Zaino is that Prima/Zaino will keep your car looking like that longer.

As I mentioned, Zaino is very durable (can't speak for the other products). I used this on our first MINI and then drove it almost every day during a Rochester winter and never washed it until the Spring - the car looked like a salt lick.  I was surprised to find that water was still beading up on that first wash and the finish was still pretty glossy. Certainly not as good as immeditely following an application, but very impressive considering the amount of salt, slush, etc that it had been exposed to.

Zaino has now released a separate sealant that is applied after everything else has gone on. I used that last year and it seemed to work quite well.  In between applications of the main products there are two separate quick detailers that Zaino has - each works quite well with one being more designed for those times when an 'extra-special' shine is desired.

Mitch

I ordered the Prima Paradise Super Bundle this morning.  Yes quite expensive, I get a lot of products though.  I need a step by step on what I should use first and how often.

I am so pumped right now I am so excited. Tomorrow I pick up ZIGGY. I showed my boss the picture of him that Greg emailed to me and he said "Oh you're looking for a MINI Cooper". I said "No, that is my MINI Cooper" and I explained to him that was why I had to take a personal day tomorrow. He told me to enjoy.

Hi - I just popped in and edited "mini" to "MINI".
Since you're now in the club be sure that the guys at Towne show you the secret handshake.  Enjoy the car.

MJB MINI: Any information I have about detailing I have found on the North American Motoring forums, specifically the Detailing 101 section. Here is a link so a good post with detailed instructions for each step.

I picked up Ziggy today and I am in love what an awesome ride. I enjoyed all the time I had motoring but now it is time to turn in. I am totally exhausted. I did not sleep much at all lastnight but will sleep much better tonight.

I passed a fellow mini owner today around Yorkshire or somewhere around there they had a yellow mini with black bonnet stripes I believe a black roof and we both waved.

I love my ZIGGY so much. This is definitely the coolest car I have ever owned or will ever own. It was so funny lastnight we were taking a ride in ZIGGY of course and we pulled up to a red light and the person in the vehicle next to me kept looking at my car and smiling and then she looked at me and said I love your car.

I am still in the new car love myself, it is great. I am thinking that this feeling last much longer with a MINI than with other cars.

I agree Mitch I couldn't wait to get ZIGGY out of the garage this morning and I am going to be heading out soon to get my husband's medicine.  He said that is just a reason to be in my car and I said of course.

For some reason Yellowmininy I can not read your private message or send you one. I am not sure what is going on or why maybe it is my computer but I see that you sent me a private message I just can't read it or send you one back.

There isn't any secret to the wave, just make sure you wave and give a friendly smile to every fellow motorer you see!

I've been trying to find the pamphlet, Pritty much what it informed the reader of was that durring the wave you must maintain proper control of you MINI by not letting go of the stearing wheel and so they depicted a guy with his hand at the 12:00 position gripping the wheel with his ring and pinkie fingers and then the middle finger partially extended and the index finger completely extended. Also another form of greeting that they described is flashing....but they described that its like winking at someone....I guess I like to wink when I'm in the MINI
It was a cool drawing and description done in the typical MINI way

I have to take my mini in to have the roof graphic replaced. I am not sure when, I called on Saturday and they have to get back to me on a date. I noticed that some of the edges on the checkerboard are turned up and I can't have that. They are going to replace the whole graphic.
