New to the Mini Club of WNY

Hi everybody I am new to the mini boards actually we just ordered my mini yesterday 3/15/08.  So any advice you can all give me please do.  We ordered a 2008 Mini Cooper Chili Red with Checkerboard roof,  Checkerboard mirrors and rear view mirror, Checkerboard Dash with Rooster Red Colorline, Cold Weather Package Cruise control and automatic transmission.  I never learned to drive a standard.  I am from Olean NY I am married with an 11 almost 12 year old son.

Welcome and congrats on your purchase! My wife learned to drive standard on her 07 Mini S. Just educate yourself on your cooper because every time you stop somewhere there will be someone asking you questions about it. Happy motoring!

It is so nice to meet everyone. I have been wanting a mini for over a year now and it seemed like it was never going to happen. When we went to Towne Mini yesterday I was like on cloud 9. Greg told me that my mini could be here in April or the beginning of May. I think it is so cool that you can track your mini. I wanted to get the Checkerboard door handles but it is $344 to install them so that is something I will wait on and add later. My husband wants to get the ski rack but that will come later also.

I have wanted a Mini since 2002, but finances did not allow that.

My Honda Accord became expensive to maintain, and my father (minimitch) recently bought one.

Anyway long story short Minis are great and I look forward to 'club' events.

Welcome, MJB and Mitch! I purchased my MINI last spring, and have loved every minute with it. I bought a convertible, and on every nice day that I'm driving around with the roof down (including the warm days that we have had this winter), I look at those driving minivans and SUVs, and actually feel a little bit bad for them. I make sure to smile and wave! :)

I just got home from work and decided to check to see if any updates regarding my mini and nothing yet. I just can't wait to get it. Did any of you order a mini? and if yes how long before you get it?

Hi everyone

not sure where to post this but wanted to let everyone know that Greg from Towne emailed me and my mini is in the production stage with a scheduled birthday of March 31st. How exciting I am totally excited here. I am trying to come up with a name for my mini. I told my son that the mini was going to be born two days before his birthday he thought that was so cool.

By the way my name is Marla.

Greg is a nice guy to buy a Mini from. I ordered mine 12/14/02, it was built 1/17/03 & I picked it up 2/11/03. If it doesn't scare you that I still remember this, it should! biggrin.gif

I have a 2003 Liquid Yellow/white Cooper, unmodified except for ducks. My Mini's name is Ra.

I know I will remember too, which I agree is kind of scary but I guess when you wait long enough it is hard not to remember.

Post some pics when your MINIs arrive too!

Hi everyone

I called ask mini and my car is still in production with an estimated completion date of March 29th. Greg at Towne said it had a scheduled completion date of March 31st. I am really trying to be patient. I know some of you ordered your mini how long did it take after it was completed before it arrived at the car dealership? When we ordered Greg said I could have it as early as April probably like the end by the time it gets to Towne and has the accessories put on. I saw the driving lights and I really like those but I am going to wait on that.

I put driving lights on my wife's R56. Cost us about $150 and took me about 2 hours.

Was it a pain for you to put them in? My husband has a friend that has a mini and he put his driving lights in and he told him it was a pain. I see that they are $510 on the website and not sure how much for labor. That is probably something I can add later. I think I have a good start with all the checkerboard I am getting. Greg from Towne emailed me and he said it usually takes about 3 weeks plus or minus a few days after my mini is built, hopefully by the end of April I should have mine. I can't wait.

The hardest part is finding a good spot to put the switch! In my wife's I put it in a spot I will never put one in again. www.vipcustomparts.com has the brackets for $75 shipped for the R56, that is where we got ours from. We purchased Hella 500's and they can be found at walmart for under 50 on clearance right now.

Depending on where your located if you want to install them yourself I would be happy to lend a hand. Just to let you know you do have to cut the grill a little but its easy.

You can put any light you want as long as it is a shallow depth. Just make sure you get a light set that comes with a relay kit.

Thanks for the help. We live in Olean New York not many minis I have seen some but not alot. I see that you are from Rochester. We are coming to Rochester in August and we usually get a hotel room and stay the night. I think it is on a Friday I will have to look at my appointment book. We will definitely be taking my mini.

I called Ask Mini and my car could be finished as soon as this past Saturday. I contacted Greg at Towne yesterday and he said that we will know for sure on Monday. How long does it usually take before it gets on the boat? I am so anxious.

I think the boat wait time varies from a couple of days to a week to 2, from what I've seen. It's normal to be anxious. Try to get everything done you want to get done for the next few months, since you'll want to be driving once the Mini gets here. biggrin.gif

It is awful waiting. I have wanted a mini for quite some time and I thought after I ordered it would by a relief but I think it is worse.

I am hoping my mini gets on the boat sometime this week like maybe Monday or Tuesday.

That is so true, I have never been the type to just go for a drive, but now I am.

I called Ask Mini this morning and they told me that my car was finished on Sunday and was on the way to the South Hampton port. They seem to think it should be on a boat in the next couple of days. I hope they are right.

I work at a school so starting on Friday I am off for two weeks so I am going to do my spring cleaning so that my house is nice and clean by the time my mini gets here and then I can go out for drive every night after work.
