We are hoping to be there also. ZIGGY arrives into NYC tomorrow. I can't wait to finally see him.

We hope to be there as long as we are all well. My son has the lovely viral influenza (what a way to spend 2 weeks of vacation from school) and myself and my husband hope not to get it.

Sadly due to a scheduling conflict Laurie and I will not be able to attend.

I do need a favour from those that will be at The Glen. I am in need of four rocks from the track a bit smaller than a ping pong ball.

Laurie and I plan on attending MTTS in Chicago this summer and I need the rocks to uphold a track course worker tradition.

Hello Canandaigua area MINIs

Is anyone meeting at Wegmans to caravan to Watkins Glen? If so what time?
Are passengers allowed in the cars when on the track?

I always aim for 10 am, though I don't think I've made it before 10:15 yet! :D

We'll meet up at the ticket office (at the 3rd entrance off Route 16) like we did last year, then join the queue at the Main Gate once we're together.

Won't be long now!

Hope to see U all at The Glen. Took my MiNI out of storage yesterday and she ran fine though she needed a jump start after her winter's rest. Top is down and our first ride we saw five other MINI's motoring around the Webster area. Voor-Room! Life is sweet in a MINI on most days but on a nice Spring day with the air fresh, the temp warm and the sun shining it was glorious! Added note: I just turned 16K miles yesterday. My '05 MCC will be at Wegman's @ 8:30am on Race Day @ The Glen for the convoy. Happy Motor'n! smile

Tom, hope to see you there. As far as your MCC from your pics it looks like a MCSC. You car looks almost like a clone of mine when I first bought it.

OK, here's the recap:

Watkins Glen Opening Day 4/27/2008

Watkins Glen Racetrack Opening Day is Sunday, April 27th. WGI has 3 paced laps for $20, and the racetrack does this as a charity fundraiser. We've been doing this since 2003, and it's always a good way to start the driving season!

The first entrance at Watkins Glen International is the entrance used for this event.

So my plan is once again:
Meet at the 3rd entrance at 10 AM, by the ticket office window. This will allow us to get all the Minis together, and they will let us go on the track together as a group. From there we will drive down to the 1st entrance.

Call me if you need help meeting up with the group- PM me for my cell phone #, and I'll have 2 way radios on channel 7, sub channel 21.

Lunch will be at the Crooked Rooster Brewpub, Franklin St in Watkins Glen.
223-301 North Franklin Street
Watkins Glen, NY 14891
Ph: 607.535.9797

Well have a caravan from Rochester & west to Watkins Glen, leaving the Canandaigua Wegmans (345 Eastern Blvd Canandaigua NY) around 8:30 AM

Thanks for all your work

Probably 364 to 14A, down to 14. I took that route down the other day, and it was a nice drive.

I really want to go to Watkins Glen but my son is supposed to have a friend over that day so if by some chance he can't come over we will be there but if he comes over then we won't be able to.

I hope to see everyone at Watkins Glen.

Any Ithaca or T-burg MINIs up for a few laps at Watkins Glen? I know a few of you are out there because you were at Watkins Glen last year. Maybe we can rendezvous on Sunday morning and drive over together. PM me.

Yepper your right - It's a MCSC. All we have to do is put more letters on for accessories and things will get very confusing ashamed
tom e- MCSC -Webster, NY Where Life is worth living <- that's what the sign says :o)

Thanks to everyone who came out today! We had 26 Minis/counterfeit Minis on the track, plus a visit from Bagpiper on his way to Ithaca. The weather was perfect, and it was our best showing for Opening Day yet. (No wonder the WGI staff like Minis!)

Got rocks! biggrin.gif

Cathleen -

Thanks again for doing such a spectacular job organizing the day at the Glen. Brian and I had a really fun time (got a little sun burned), and really liked the place that we had lunch. We enjoyed getting to know all of the club members a little bit better, admiring everyone's wheels, and pretending that we were race car drivers for a little while. We'll see you next at MOT, unless an ice-cream run is organized sometime before then.

Cheers!

Holly (aka "PepperMINI") and Brian

Cath,
Once again a superb job of getting everyone to the track and lunch and   thanks for tackling this again this year!  Barb and I enjoyed the whole day, the people, the cars, and the meal.  It was especially nice to meet Holly and Brian, a great couple.  I must give Brian a tour of our Wind Tunnel one of these days.  Thanks to Big Yin for tips on Scotland.  I look forward to hearing more from him on that subject before our trip!  Oh, and by the way, Cath, you're off the hook for washing my dusty car!  The rain took care of that this morning!  Bugs and all are gone!  We very nearly ran out of gas on the Thruway on the way home, thanks to my "Press on regardless" (and ignore the red light) mentality!  I think the  pump  attendant was thrilled to charge a Mini $50!  Bill aka Cogmanbiggrin

Guys,
Make sure all you Mini people who attended this event go to www.tracktimephotos.com, and check out the shots taken by this service.  A little pricey, but believe me, you only live once!  There is a great shot of PepperMini just before she ran the photographer over!  Cogmanaww

Thanks for organizing this event and making it happen.
It was my first event and I had a great time.
Its interesting so see all the MINI's and meet other owners.
I learned a lot from everyone about upgrades to my car.
Now I just need a second job!

Cogman -

I loved the pictures so much, I ordered a couple.  I'm always being chased by the paparazzi, so I had to give them a scare...  biggrin  (JK)

Brian talked nonstop about the wind tunnel on the way home.  Living with an engineer can have it's challenges (I have received a full education on wind tunnels, pulleys, and just about everything else that was brought up throughout the day).  He would love to see where you work.  He has wind tunnel envy (and he admitted to some MINI envy as well).

Should we just order the CD for the club? Then we could each take our picture off of it. I think that would be legal. I am assuming purchase of the CD is also release of the copy right.
