To Checker or Not to Checker

Hi Everyone:

I'm a new member to this forum and I'm about to put an order in for my first MINI. I've got my list together (a Cooper-S) and I'm having second thoughts about what probably should be the easiest decision. Would appreciate your thoughts.

I'm pretty well sold on getting a red one with black stripes on the bonnet and a black roof (with a moon roof). I was thinking of setting it off with a black & white checkered roof decal and checkered side mirror covers - until I was talking with my 27 y/o daughter this afternoon. She remarked that my motorcycle (a1700 cc midlife crisis gift to myself a couple of years ago) could be a nice reflection of my "wild" side, while the checkered roof could represent my "dorky" side.

Ouch! Now, she's a young, NYC actress so I'm thinking she must know something about "cool". But here I was thinking that this checkered theme would look cool. So, one of us must be wrong. What do you think? Anyone in the club here have any checkers in their color scheme working?

Thanks for your help here. Hopefully, I'll get to meet some of you after my purchase - with or without the checkers.

To Checker or Not to Checker....hmmmm......  You can always hold off on roof checker graphics and always add them at a later date. If you can find a picture of a car like your you could compare with and without checkers.  I say if YOU like them and want them, then go for it!

Thanks Copi. That's what I did. We'll see what it looks like without and go from there. Anyone in the Forum here have a photo of what a red CooperS looks like with checkers on the sunroof glass top??

Maybe not here, but there are lots of photo threads on www.northamericanmotoring.com

Mark (SPDinNY) found a place here in Rochester that does custom graphics (including the translucent sunroof graphics) for VERY reasonable prices.

Thanks Nicole. I'll keep that in mind. My salesperson has told be that's it's "in production" now...........can't wait. I guess you really have to like these MINI's from the start, if you have to wait so long to actually take possession of one.

Not to worry, once you've had one for 4 years, the wait time doesn't seem so long! biggrin.gif

I didn't have to wait...  our Checkmate was hidden in the back row on the lot smile

I know I missed some of the Mini experience, but I didn't have to wait either.

One complicationg is the fact that I'll be giving the car that the MCS will be replacing to my daughter in the next two weeks (she needs it to take to L.A.). So the final four weeks or so of the wait, I'll be sharing a single car with my wife - thereby making the last leg of the wait even more agonizing! But then again, the final reward when it comes, will be that much sweeter (how's that for a reframe?).
