Speaking of ice cream, which is a personal weakness of mine, there's this really great place called the Cayuga Lake Creamery on Route 89 in Interlaken. It's on the way home for the Rochester area crew (sort of). I have attempted to paste in their link below:

http://www.cayugalakecreamery.com/index.htm

The Cayuga Lake Creamery is a mere 4 miles north of my house. I would join you for an ice cream, unfortunately I have plans to travel west after the after the Watkins Glen Laps. Maybe another tme.

If anyone is going to be in the Geneva/Waterloo area Saturday night, and interested in a late afternoon drive or dinner, let me know. I don't have a definite plan yet, but could make a plan for dinner at Abigail's (next door to the Waterloo/Seneca Falls Microtel), or we could go a little farther afield if anyone wants to see one of the other Finger Lakes (Skaneateles, Oswego, Cayuga, Seneca or Keuka). Or even Steamboat Landing for dinner in Canandaigua.

The movie at the Finger Lakes drive in is 'Underdog'. I'm not sure that's going to be worth staying up past my bed time for! :D

There is a detour on 14 south of the Thruway on the way to downtown Geneva. There is a truck route that splits off first to the left, which I think takes you far to the east (but would have some nice views of Seneca Lake coming back west on 5&20), and there is a 2nd detour that cotinues straight, then heads right and back left again in Geneva back to 14. From 14 you will go to the right (east) on 5&20 to go to Wegmans, which is on the right, set back a bit from the road, and just after Arby's.

Hi! I'm a newbie to and was wondering what kind of food I can bring to the event. Also if it's to late for me to join the ride.

never too late =) Just bring something like chips or cookies (mmmm cookies) I know we are bringing veggies and hummus (yuck) and most importantly bring yourself and your mini.

(also $25 if you want to get on the track)

post a message in the forum telling  us about you and your car if you would!

Welcome, Duck! As SPDinNY says, come on down & join in the fun! If you're meeting up with us in the Geneva Wegmans parking lot, we can all compare notes in the parking lot & do some quick shopping then. My usual advice is 'when in doubt bring dessert'.

If you coming from the south, we'll be meeting in the Watkins Glen racetrack entrance around 11:15 am, up at the 3rd entrance by the ticket office, just to meet together and line up, then we'll head down to the main entrance before noon.

Looks like the weather will be nice- maybe a little cool, but pleasant!

Thank you Cathleen, Nichole & Chad! We had a great time!

Here is a link to video we took today on YouTube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3FwxQKUlDo

The quality is not too bad when you take into account that it was taken with a 3 year old 5mp digital camera in video mode! Mark did a great job modifying the GPS mount with zip-ties and a popsicle stick!

Did anyone go for ice cream on the way home? I found I wasn't very hungry. :)

Cogman, I hope you are feeling better. Yellow Minis were sadly underrepresented!

We didn't end up stopping for ice cream either. I did come home and go for a run wearing my new tshirt - I definitely think it made me faster smile.gif

Venno - the link for the pictures isn't working for me... post again?

my mount is just the suction cup one for my gps, I had my Kodak LS753 ziptied to it. I may make a mount for it using the tripod hole in the near future. And yes Venno was behind me tailgating quite often. You will notice I practiced safer driving etiquette by keeping a good distance between myself and the car ahead of me. Perhaps some anger managemant classes are in order for Venno, or maybe he just needs to eat a hamburger or two =P. (and maybe I need to eat one or two less hamburgs *rubs tummy*)

Brian and I also had a fantastic time. Great job, YellowMINI with the overall organization and thoughtfullness that you exhibited towards the group (including nametags for us newbies and the ducks for our antennas --- our duck is named Beneducked, because he's holy like the Pope). Alas, Brian and I went home, took a nap, and then went out for ice cream in lieu of dinner in Victor. Spd, that's a great video. Venno, I have some good shots of your car, but am clueless as to how to do anything on the internet. Also, I have some good shots of the white MINI that was behind us on the way down to the Glen. Thanks to Chad and Nichole for hosting us all for lunch. I shared pictures with my friends and coworkers, who are developing a good case of MINI envy. It was cool to put faces with all of the names (although I'm sure we haven't kept them all straight, yet).

Cheers!

Holly and Brian (and Pepper, the MINI)

braking is for rookie drivers who come into a turn too hot =P

I know you would have passed me but you were worried you may wreck your sisters half of the car!  *ooooh snap!*

Nope, I totalled it. It was my fault and it sucked, but thanks to seat belts and airbags I walked away with just some minor burns on my arms and a lovely bruise across my chest. Not a very fun story!

There was the time when a young Mark ran from the police... but that's not really related to the discussion is it?

1.9 liters of Mercury Tracer fury! It was the only thing between me and Buford T Justice! But that story is for another time....
