If you haven't test driven one of these cars you just have to try it.  I got behind the wheel, hit the gas and felt like I got shot out of a canon.  It is just major fun!  I don't know about snow yet as I just got my Mini last week, but I just love my car.  I had a turbo charged 2003 Beetle, and this car is way, way more fun.  I love that I can plug my IPod into the auxillary port on the stereo and have hours of my favorite music available.

I'm only 5'2", so I can't tell you how this car is for taller people, but for the smaller folks like me.

Claire

Congrats Claire! I too have exciting news to share...

Well, it's official. Even if it is unofficially official. biggrin

I am now a Mini owner! I test drove an automatic MC. I was thoroughly impressed with the way it worked, and loved using the paddle shifters, but I'm just not ready to give up rowing the gears myself yet. This is what I finally decided to go with:

'07 Mellow Yellow/Black
6-sp man
Cold Weather
Premium
Sport
Grey/Black Leatherette Sport Seats
Mellow Yellow color line interior
Black bonnet stripes

As much as I really wanted an MCS, I couldn't justify giving up all those other options. In another 2-3 years once I've gotten firmly acquainted with all of the base MC's nuances, then I'll pick up an MCS with all the trimmings I want.

Now the wait begins. The MC is currently in transit on the water somewhere between Oxford and NJ. MA estimates 1-2 weeks for delivery. I'm cool with it, but patience has never been a strong suit of mine. aww

I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!

Sounds great! Many of us waited for Minis, so we know what you mean. It's time to do all the things you've been putting off for a while, clean the garage if you have one, etc. You won't want to do much but drive once you get it!

Congratulations! Sounds great!

We left Towne yesterday with our MINI around 3 and finally dragged ourselves inside for the night at 10:30. It was too much fun - even if right now I'm mostly the passenger, I'm learning/practicing standard and can't wait until I can drive my car ALL the time!

I waited an hour and a half for my MINI. I looked at it, went home, told my wife I looked at it, she wanted to know why I hadn't bought it. I went back and bought it.

Now that may just work.... biggrin

Sad thing is, I can get an MCS for $500 more than what I have my MC coming in at. Maybe I should give Towne a call and see if there is anything else I can do.... devilish.gif

I'm biased, but $500 is a small price to pay. Having said that I've never driven the new models so can't comment on the difference in performance. But if you feel drawn towards an MCS and for only $500 more you run the risk of buyer's regret for the next few years every time you see an S.

Agreed, but that is $500 for an MCS with no, and I repeat, no options. I just got a call from my MA, Ray, and he says that the Mini is in NJ and they should have it in by Wed, I should be able to pick it up by Sat at the latest!!!!!

I've wrestled with it back and forth so many times it's made my eyes bleed (well, not really, but it did give me a stress headache at one point). I want to wait and get the MCS I truly want, not just a stripped down MCS just to say that I have an MCS. I've owned/driven Mustangs that would cause most people to have to change their "unmentionables", so while the idea of 60+ extra HP is nice, so is having the extra options I have on my MC.

I can't wait!!! Anyone want to motor this weekend? biggrin

Unfortunately, you'll have trouble keeping up with the MCSs in the crowd.biggrin

Venno -

I actually grew up in "Da 'Cuse", so that's a definite possibility. My dad still lives in Clay, so I can use a visit as an excuse to go down and do some motoring! smile

This weekend may be a bit dicey though, as I have weekend-duty at work. Hard to tell what my schedule will be like until at least Thursday or Friday evening. Next weekend should be cool though.

One other thing...I misspoke when I listed the options my Mini comes with. It does not have the Sport package. I wish it did, but that's okay. I'm already plotting the fun I'll have with this one, and what options I'll pick when I do order my MCS from the factory. biggrin

Sad thing is, the Mustang is really the only Ford I'd consider owning anymore. The venerable 302/351C engines are legendary for their "beat the snot out of them and they still come back for more" reliability, but now that everything is electronics, the Japanese and European automakers seem to have it all over "The Big 3".

Make no mistake, if I lived in a no-snow climate, I wouldn't even be considering a Mini, I'd be buying a Mustang. That's not a dig on the Mini, I can't wait to become an owner this weekend, but my Musclecar roots run too deep. I don't care what anyone says, you just cannot beat the sound of a Ford V8 blowing out of a set of Flowmaster mufflers. Automotive symphony if ever there was one.

I'm hoping to one day have the best of both worlds, an MCS for the twisties and daily driving duties, but a classic '65-'70 or '79-'95 Mustang to drive around when I feel the need for that V8 rumble.

I thought the 5.0's were known best for the water pump going. I do agree on the sound of an easy breathing Mustang.

I never had any problems with the stock ones, but of course I usually swapped them out with an electric one in short-order anyways.

I think in about 62 hours. Not that you'd be counting, or anything. smile.gif

If I was shopping for a 60s-70s era car, it would be a Dodge Dart.
