This is something that Maria (she's from Ithaca and was at our April Rally) is organizing:
The event is a Parade through Ithaca, and she is heading up a MINI float. The Parade has other floats (90 usually) like Volvo Ballet theme where they put their Volvos in too-tooes and drive with classical music or Hybrid Hoe-down theme, where people drive with their Hybrids wearing Cowboy hats.
She would like to get some of the MINIs in and around Ithaca together with this float. She needs "4 fun, racy, spectacular MINIs" , each of different colors, so far: Red with white roof- Maria Dark Silver w/ DS roof-Venno
The parade starts at 6:30 but we'll meet at 5:15pm. All it'll require is to drive through the street, She's having a friend put together a MINI themed song ( Mickey Mouse song with modified Lyrics) that she'll play through her CD player. So I just got back from the Float...it was a ball/hilarious.... There were originally 4 of us (one of whome Maria got by running out into the street and stopping, and then Maria, Aristina and me), then as we waited, once again in true mini spirit, I ran out into the middle of the road to flag down a white MINI which just happened to be driving by our MINI caravan...we persuaded the unsuspecting motorer to join us in our float at which point three of us began to scavange napkins and a bottle of water to clean the unsuspecting MINI which showed signs of motoring and being parked under a tree with a bird. (only would a MINI owner clean another MINI) The Parade was fun, everyone was laughing and waving as we drove through the streets with kids and families waiving and blairing the Mickey mouse theme song with MINI words through my MINIs sounds system. Some other floats were fairly crazy, a guy with a bunch of bags on a stick (it was "a review of bags") some guys in pink tutooes. 2/3 of the way down the heavens opened up as the winds kicked up and the thunder began to roar and then the rain began to pour, the crowds stayed!!! i felt guilty rolling up my windows and closing my sunroof as all these poor people sat unphased by the impending doom that was about to come down from the sky! We ended up going to have dinner like a little family at ABC Cafe... It was really cool being amongst people who were just as crazy about their MINIs as I was about mine (Kitty is her name by the way) and there were a lot of moments where i thought 'ha! only a MINI owner would understand/ not think this was crazy'
In short you guys missed out on a lot of fun... but there is next year... Good job maria on organizing this!
