I have a 2012 Coupe that, when we ordered it, the salesman misunderstood the tire size and we wound up with 15". Nothing wrong with that, but combined with the light weight, the Coupe is pretty squirrely in the winter and I am looking to buy Blizzaks AND rims so I can just swap them out without remounting every season. I live in the Buffalo area and the beefier tire width will help with the gush ruts here.
Any ideas? I read the club's tire pages on the topic and all the postings are quite old.
Also looking for a Mini qualified mechanic in the Southtowns. I have to drive an hour to get to the dealer and want someone closer who knows what they're doing.
Thx. Have decided to ease into this--buying Blizzaks this winter and will have them mounted this year. If it works like I think it will, I'll go with the rims, too. Decided to stick with the smaller tire size because of the taller sidewall--smoother ride.
You do not want wider tires for snow (or rain). The narrower the tire, the better in snow. It reduces the chance for aquaplaning. And it cuts through the snow a lot better. Think snow shoes versus boots. The more space the weight can get distributed, the higher the chance it rides on top of the snow.
