Gas Mileage drop

Hey everyone- I've recently noticed my gas mileage has taken a 3-5 mpg drop since the weather started getting cold, and since this is my first winter in a MINI I wasn't sure if this was a common thing for all first Gen cars or what. Im getting between 27 and 25 now, and I would get 30 and above in the summer time, what do you guys get?

Aluminum Block engines hate the cold for one. Also, IDK too much about the Gen1 engines but my Gen2 as some carbon build up in it. Don't notice it too much in the warm weather but I've noticed a drastic change (~8-10mpg) since its been below freezing as the engine has to work a bit harder. Are you running snow tires as well? That'll make slight difference with the lack of traction but I don't thing 5mpg worth of difference. IDK
There's a few more tech. proficient people here that can give a better answer. That's just the issues I'm experiencing.

Yeah I've got snows all the way around, so that may be it too. It stinks being used to getting above 30, but now it's struggling to get past 30 at all

UPDATE: I've noticed when the weather gets below about 25 degrees I average about 29mpg, but when its warmer I get closer to 40!
