Chain Failure....

so with just over 50k, as I'm driving home from NYC, I notice a rhythmic, slight yet noticeable, vibration while coming up I390. When I stopped for fuel around Rochester, I noticed that "cold start knocking noise" I've read about. After about 10-15 seconds it went away and sounded/felt like normal. Next day when I went to start up, the chk engine light comes on accompanied by what sounded like a big, turbo diesel engine under the hood....come to find out, the chain slipped just enough to set the timing off slightly, as I continued to drive home, everything was still hot, keeping things tight, after it cooled down, however, different ballgame. Its now at Towne, in pieces, as I have an extended warranty. But, after doing some reading, this may not be covered.

just a sad note that I felt to share.....

Hopefully noting within the block was damaged

Good luck! I just had the water pump replaced on my '07 MCS (has ~40k miles) last week... MINI of Rochester was great about working with my Mechanical Breakdown Insurance.

well, Towne wouldnt cover it under warranty because there was not enough oil (down .5 qt to be exact) which was enough to void the warranty in this case. BUT, they gave me a killer deal. The whole project (chain tensioner, guides, sprocket and inspection of the rest of the engine) came to 1700. Not what I wanted to spend but considering the work done...not bad at all.

That is BS since MINI states it is within factory spec to burn 1 qt every 1000 miles. That would mean to not void your warranty you would have to top the oil off every time you get gas. It the R56 a two stroke now?

lol Just send BMW/Mini USA a run down of the issue at hand. The service manager told me to speak with them directly, They responded promptly and said they would review the case and if they rule in my favor, full refund +. not too sure with the Plus means but I'm just hoping for the best.
Car runs GREAT now.

Mini USA might help too. They covered a big chunk for me on a rust issue. They don't always help but contact them to see.
