Avatars!

Don't forget, now that we are on a paid messageboard, not only do we have a selection of more avatars (that little picture to the left under your name), you can now upload your own!

After repeated attempts, I have not been able to upload an avatar. Maybe I don't understand all this business about avatars, but is I not mistaken, an avatars can be a graphic image or a digital photo (of my mcs, for instance) uploaded from my computer. I have downsized the pic in iphoto several times but the upload doesn't seem to work. Please help. Is this web size not Mac friendly?

Not sure about Mac compatibility, but assuming that's not an issue, the steps are as follows:

1. Click on "Your Account" at top of the page

2. On the left of the account page you'll see "Profile" - select "Avatar" in this section - the Avatar page will appear

3. At bottom of the Avatar page choose "Upload Images"

4. Select "Browse" and find the image you want to upload from your computer.

5. Once selected, click on "Upload Image" - a progress box will appear while the image is being uploaded

6. If successful, you'll see the picture you selected (Be sure 'Upload an Avatar" in the Change Avatar section is underlined. If not underlined simply click on it, i.e. "Change Avatar".

7. You can upload a number of different pictures to use as Avatars and you should see them displayed in the Change Avatar section.

8. Click on the picture you want to use and then click on the Change Avatar button.

9. You should now have an Avatar

As stated somewhere, the maximum size of an image that can be uploaded is 5MB which is quite generous. The maximum image size is 100 x 100 but I think the software automatically optimizes the image - if so, you may not need to resize it (I have several images that can be used as Avatars and I've not had to resize them).

Good luck.

I followed your directions to a tee, however after I click upload image, no progress box appears and no avatar is uploaded. I use a mac, maybe this site is not mac friendly?

Sorry to read of your continuing problem. It seems odd that this could be due to the fact you're using a Mac as I'd think the upload procedure should be fairly generic.  Is there any way you could try things out on a friend's PC?

Using a PC is not an option. I don't mean that as a militant Mac statement, I just don't have acces to a PC outside of my office and the prohibit PC use for non-work activities.

Unfortunately, I don't have access to a Mac. Perhaps one of the board's administrators can comment on Mac compatibility.

I sent an email to Rocketboy to see if he can offer advice. Though I know Macs are pretty common among Mini owners, I'm one of those people who has never used a Mac, or resized an avatar for that matter.
