Freezing Door Handles

One of the MINI2 regulars (Snid) posted a problem with his door handles freezing this AM, and I posted the link from Motoringfile from last year about the TSB on MINI replacing the door handles if anyone asked, even past the warranty period.  He asked at Keeler today, and they said they'd do it for $600, but the Motoringfile story says MINI would do it even if the warranty period was up.  Has anyone had this done?

I had mine done when it was still under warranty. No problems. I think that this is a dealer by dealer issue, as it was not a 'recall' but a TSB, technical service bulletin.

If our recient experience is any indicator as to how Towne will treat this type of thing I would say if it is out of warranty you pay.

The boot latch failed in Smileee. She is 4k past the warranty with a known problem. I was quoted a price of $85 hr labor plus parts. A replacement latch was $65.

My answer was to get the part and install it myself.

I have a feeling the same rule will apply to the door handle.

Out of warranty is out of warranty even if you have a known high failure probelm.

Cheers,

Jack

Here's a link to the MINI TSB describing the fix for door handles that freeze up. A little late in the season, but some may find it helpful.
