Winter Tires

Hello all,

I hope your summer was filled with many Mini adventures as mine was, I bought the Amazing Mini at the end of March and have already put 6000 wonderful miles on.

Question regarding winter tires, where is the best place to buy them and what are all of you using?

I have a 2011 Mini Cooper S, Eclipse Gray

thanks

Blizzaks are the best and Tire Rack has the best prices, hands down.

I've been running on the Continentals during the summer. On the plus side, they're very soft, so they make for a smooth ride. On the minus side, I burn through them awful quickly. I know that Tedscar is trying a different brand, so perhaps he can share his experience with his tires.

Are you using run flats?

I've used Blizzaks and Pirelli snow tires, honestly I prefer the Pirelli's.

In the summer I've used continentals, Potenzas, and Hankook V12 Ventus. The Ventus have been the best by far, and the cheapest.

I don't use runflats either. They ruin the ride.

I agree about the runflats. Not a fan.

Run flats for the winter as insurance.

Hankook V12 for summer tires, much better ride quality, nice cheap performance tire.

I've haven't run the Mini in the winter, but I've used Pirelli and Michelin winter tires on my other vehicles.  The Michelin's were great when snow was on the ground but a bit unstable at highway speeds.  I was able to get 5 winters out of them.  The Pirellis are great at highway speeds but give up just a bit of traction in the snow.  I'll buy Pirellis again.

For the summer I bought Hankook V12s which I subsequently took to the Dragon for MOTD 9.  I never got them to squeal...and not because of a lack of trying.  They're also pretty quiet and comfortable for everyday use.
