Stiff Clutch

Last night I was driving down the 90 and had the cruise control on for almost the whole ride (about 15 minutes).  When I got to my exit I went to push the clutch in to down shift and it was extremely stiff, almost like hitting the brakes on an older car with new brake pads installed.  And yes, I was hitting the clutch NOT the brake, I did a triple take to make sure. Anyone else have this problem or heard of anything like this? It was a one time deal, so far. . .

I experienced that once or twice. My clutch still worked, but it felt a little stiff at first. I think it was just because you hadn't touched the peddles in a while that they stiffened up. After you worked the peddles getting off the highway, were they still stiff?

Hi Gregor

I had the same probem with my 09 JCW, the clutch felt almost like a brake.

I suggested to the Mini Dealership that there was problem with my Pressure plate.

The dealership checked out the car and found the Pressure Plate defective and all was changed under warranty.  Pressure Plate, Clutch Plate and and Release Bearing.

Hoping this helps you

Cheers Mike

Both of my MINIs have done that when using the clutch to disengage cruise control. Turn off the cruise control with the button and wait a second or two before you use the clutch and it will be fine.
