UK Car Day 8-22-10 in Genesee Valley Park (Rochester)

Who's in? We don't have to assign our own prizes this year... but I guess that also means that we'll be competing against one another. aww

Nicole, great find on the show details. It looks like we are IN THIS YEAR!!! The fine showing from the club last year must have made them understand that we can be more then the "step child".

We are listed as class "J - New MINI". in the list of class page link.
It looks like I'm going to have to clean the engine with cue tips again. lol

For those that were not there last year here is what we did or will be doing.
Drive up to the entry lane and pay the small fee. You then get your cars picture taken. They make the pictures avalable later for you to purchase. Then you are given the entry paperwork and a lable to go above the wiper on your car. Next you drive up the hill (not really a hill) to the row that your car class  is (this year class "J" ). Park your car, dust it off and spread out any information about the car. You don't need to have anything. Many will open the boonet and boot. You can keep the car locked or open. Several will have a chair and maybe a small table behind the car to relax. In fact one of us was doing neadle piont last year (no not me). Lastly, sometime durring the day you will take the judging form they gave you and YOU will have to judge a class of vehicles. Don't worry it is easy for a first timmer and I mean easy! Turn that form in and wait for the results.

Thats it. The nice thing is that you relax and spend time with the other members of the club since we are parked right next to each other. If your car has a nick there and scratch here, don't worry about it. The other people at the show LOVE the MINI Coppers. You WILL leave with a smile on your face.

Oh, did I say MiniMo will be there. :)

Ok, as it appears, I should be available for this Sunday of fun. I will show mine, as it isn't that costly, if you all are not opposed to a work in progress with a few scratches, dents, dings, and Carbon Fiber. She is my daily driver after all.

We're really looking forward to it! It will be great to meet some other MINI owners since we don't have too many in the Corning area. We haven't had our car out to a show yet, we've only had it since April.

UK Car Day is this Sunday! I'm guessing MightyMo is already out in the garage with the q-tips!

The show begins at 10. Shall we meet in the Target parking lot in Henrietta (on Hylan Drive)again to motor over to the park together? How does 9:30 sound?

How close is the Target Parking Lot to the site of the show?  Thinking of driving up from Erie.

Stoney - The Target parking lot is in between the thruway exit and Genesee Valley Park, it's a good spot for just about everybody. It's about 5 minutes from Target to GVP.

Crossing my fingers that the weather is looking better for Sunday!

TrixieinNY,

Thanks for the information.  We are not that familiar with the immediate Rochester area.

Since we have not attended any Mini or Britiish car events so far this year and Labor Day is only about two weeks away, I  think UK Car Day sounds great plus it would be a chance to see a little bit of Rochester.

At this time, however, I think the weather  may alter our thoughts for coming.  Erie's current forecast projects thundershowers from Saturday evening through Sunday afternoon with the greatest chance for being Sunday morning.  Chance of rain Saturday night, 60%.   Will see what the forecast Saturday evening.

Fair winds,
George Bennett

Running out of cue tips. The weather is not looking good but as has happened alot this year, we will have to check it saturday since it changes. I'm also going to bring two of those pop up 10x10 canapies. I will post tomarrow and maybe all will be well. Target is a great idea. Maybe I can keep it under 80mph on the way there and under 50 in the parking lot this time. Lol

So this weather report as of right now is not looking good. Sure we will have cover but I wonder since it will be raining hard tonight starting 8 pm and thunderstorms starting at 11pm through 7 am and then back to rain until 10am with scattered after that if the field will be all mud. What to do? anyone have any thoughts?

How about this, we meet rain or shine and decide if we want to go to the car show or grab some brunch? Or... We just all stay home in our jammies and hold out for Letchworth smile.gif

Sounds good to me. If fewer people show up, then there's a greater chance of winning, right? And MightyMo, I just spent the last four hours cleaning out Pepper, including crevices not seen by god, so you'd better watch out!

It wouldn't be a British car show if it wasn't raining.

I may stop by later this morning.  The park is right down the street from me.

Congrats to Nicole and Mike for tying for third place, and Scott for winning second place in the UK car show today! You guys really deserved your wins.

Also, congrats to Dijon (Grey Poupon) on the recent arrival of his third child. It was great to see you guys there.

It started out as a wet day for the club. Several members met up at Target-Marketplace. The Mall Security police.gif was clueless on what we were doing there. After we explained that there was not enough power in her police rental car to handle our Zig/Zag we were released from the Law. At 9:50 we were led by Nicole to the event in Genesee Valley Park. The dirt and mud entering the event was challenge in and of itself. But we made it without the loss of a MINI in the deep hollows of the parking lot. After paying the entry fee and receiving paperwork we found our places amongst the group of bigger cars with the assistance of other volunteers there to row "J". We setup our pop-up canopy at the end of the row and handed our paperwork to the powers of control. The hardest part was filling out the window display card in an artistic manor. Yet, there was help available for the challenged (name change to protect the innocent) TrixieinNY . With our MINI's on show, the group settled down for a bit, sitting under cover waiting for the rain to stop. And then, there it was. The moment we had been waiting for. Around 11:00 the sky cleared to the brightness of the beautiful Rochester gray. What a glorious site to see the smiles on everyones face as they darted out from cover and raced to wipe off the dirt and rain water from the brows of the MINI's.

A shinning bunch. Some with open windows, hoods and must we not forget the release of Pepper's top. We sat, talked, met new owners and ate. We were in awe over the motorcycles, Jags, Morris MINI, Rolls and MG's with Triumphs. Ohhhhh!!! the Lotus. Sorry, I'll continue.

People were ask while looking at one car, "out of our group of people, who would you pick to own that MINI?" the response. The girl in the purple chair owns this convertible, she seems to have it all together" OMG! sick.gif That was funny.
