We've had Minis helping to celebrate Opening Day at Watkins Glen since 2003. WGI starts out their season by allowing drivers to do paced laps on the track (WGI rules are 55 mph top speed). This year the cost is $25 for 3 laps, and they are offering that if anyone wants to pay for 2 sets of 3 laps ($50) they will throw in a 3rd round for free. They don't know yet whether this will be 3 consecutive runs, or coming off the track after the 1st 3 laps to let other groups go on, and then go on at a later time, so this is still uncertain.
The time I've reserved for us for the 1st run is 11:30 AM.
We will meet at Watkins Glen race track ticket office at 10:30 AM. This is not the main gate, but the 3rd left on County Road 16 (first one is the main entrance). This allows us to regroup, & folks from north of Watkins Glen & south of Watkins Glen can meet up together.
We have a Mini caravan from the north & west that will meet at the Canandaigua Wegmans parking lot between 8:30-9:00 AM, and then we'll take the scenic route to Watkins Glen.
Because the track lap timing is around lunch time, and the timing is a bit uncertain, I recommend bringing snacks (the Wegmans stop is handy for this). We usually go to the Crooked Rooster restaurant on Franklin St in Watkins Glen afterwards, but this may be not until 2-3 pm, depending on the timing.
Sounds good Cathleen, I am going to make it as this will be my last chance to do this run for a while. The Army is moving us to Dover Delaware in July. I am also going to the Dragon so your timing is perfect. I will let you know for sure but the only thing stopping me would be my co pilot.
jimmyd, good luck with the move! Does this mean you and Mitch will be running the 2nd Annual Wine Run early or that we're going to have to go it without you?
Dover, Delaware--that's just a few hours away. Right? Easy enough for you to pop back up here in the MINI...

Last year we picked up our MINI the same weekend as the Watkins Glen run. We've been looking forward to this event ever since. Count us in.

Nancy works every Saturday because the women have to get them selves beautiful. If all women looked like me with a beard and no hair then she wouldn't have to work on Saturdays. But I might be bringing her sister is that close enough. Looking forward to seeing you all. You to Brian. until then see ya CJ

Hi Jack I'm working out my work schedule and if everything works out I would like to join your group for the drive down to Watkins Glen. What time are you leaving Youngstown?? Cheers mike
I got the notice from the BMW club and was trying to plan the trip down with them (from Rochester). They are meeting at 10:00 with track time at (like) 1:00. What was the rally point from WNY? I could just go with you guys.
Is there an age restriction for riders? Can I bring my 14 year old son along for the "pace" laps?

We're going to meet up at the Canandaigua Wegmans 345 Eastern Boulevard, Canandaigua NY (on 5&20 near 332) @ 8:30 AM, and it looks like there's a group meeting in Rochester at the Midtown Tennis Club 200 East Highland Drive (East near Clover?) @ 7:45 AM.
Have some additional info from Watkins Glen- will copy & post.
I'm new to the mini crowd. I wanted to know if there is any updated information on the Watkins Glen run. Is the plan still to meet at the Wegmans in Canandaigua?
I am in N. Tonawanda and would like to go to this. Could I join up with the MINI's from this area that are going, and follow you guys. Sorry this is last minute, my registration for this forum took a few days to take.

For what it's worth, the BMW club is meeting at the Eastview Mall at 10:00 with a planned drive down and track time at (I think) 1:00. I got the invitation from them and was planning on meeting up with them. If the Wegman's thing doesn't work for some, Eastview is an option.

Yes, we'll meet at Wegmans Canandaigua Saturday 4/24
The address is: 345 Eastern Boulevard, Canandaigua NY (on 5&20 near 332)
If you have FRS radios, they are handy to have for info on the turns we'll take on the route. We usually use channel 7, subchannel 21. I have a few extra radios for folks who don't have them, but I certainly recommend getting them for Mini drives.
Watkins Glen says they'll be using the middle entrance of the 3 off County Road 16 for car clubs. We will meet first up at the 3rd entrance at the Ticket Office to meet up with the Minis from the Southern Tier, and the group from Wegmans will drive there (along the scenic route). (Not to worry, I've been this way a few times before!)
My cell # is 585-278-3322 (For security reasons, I'm going to delete the posts with phone numbers after the run, since we get a number of spammer visits here)
WGI is going to try to do 2 consecutive laps for the groups of people who want to do 2 sets of 3 laps ($50 total), and they are offering a 3rd free set of laps, but will add that run on after the first 2. This is the first time they have done this, so we may want to coordinate at the Ticket Office meeting who wants to do 1 run, and who wants to do the 2nd & 3rd run, because it sounds like there will be a wait for the 3rd run.
After the track time some of us will head over to the Crooked Rooster restaurant for lunch (and having 2 groups might work better for this than the whole mass of Minis) The restaurant is on the main street in Watkins Glen, Franklin St, which is Route 14.
Keep us posted on a Finger Lakes run, Cathleen. We need a Buffalo fix really bad. Almost out of Sahlen's hot dogs, Redlinski's kielbasa and Scime's Italian sausage.
