Guess what??? It's closing in on time for our 2nd Annual Pirate Toy Fund (PTF) Holiday Donation, following the tradition we established last year! We loaded up several MINIs with toys, got a fire truck escort (thanks to MightyMo), had Channel 10 news coverage, had a little post-delivery celebration at the Old Toad Pub, and generally had ourselves a time!
For those of you unfamiliar with the PTF, check out their website: http://www.piratetoyfund.org/. The thread to last year's event is here: http://miniclubofwny.activeboard.com/index.spark?aBID=71633&p=3&topicID=22249261 .
I've been in touch with PTF folks and they're excited to have us contribute again this year! Due to their busy holiday schedule, they'd prefer if we make our delivery on either 12/12 or 12/19 (both are Saturdays).
Last year, the overwhelming majority of participants voted to make the delivery in the afternoon. I'd like to just stick with that--last year we delivered at 2 PM. If there are weather issues (as there were last year) that makes it more likely that we won't have to make last-minute changes due to road conditions, unplowed driveways, etc.
So, if you would, check things out, post your thoughts, and please vote on which date would work better for you. The voting wil close in two weeks, on 11/18. We'll go with the majority vote.
Looking forward to a great turnout for this fun event!

I voted for the 19th (if that helps sway anyone who is undecided) because I have a work party on the 12th.

The toy delivery will be in Rochester, NY to the Pirate Toy Fund warehouse on Main Street. Last year, we met at the fire station on East Main (MightyMo works there), and drove down to the PTF warehouse. Afterwards, we went to the Old Toad for drinks/celebration.

Can go for the 12th or 19th. I am not working this year however here is what is happening on my end.
-I am not working both days so I will be there with MiniMo. -The Captain of the Engine 12 has given his approval for the BRAND NEW firetruck to be used again. This is as long as there is no emergency at the time. -MINIs can meet and setup at the Engine 12 firehouse at 160 Wisconsin Street. Corner of E. Main street. The Side lot will be available. There is heat, bathroom and coffee available also. -The Engine can lead the MINIs with lights flashing which will make all traffic lights green on the way up. For those that did not go last year think of it like a parade. -If need be I can make sure that the Parking lot and Gary's lot are both clear of snow.
*singing* Zig-zag through the snow......in a 176hp Mini ......over the roads we go....laughing all the way....

MightyMo--very generous of you and the Engine 12 firefighters! Thank you (in advance) for all your help. Hopefully, we will have a little easier day and night before the blessed event than last year.
I'm really glad you and MiniMo will both be able to participate as MINIacs!
Does anyone know Melisa B. who participated very enthusiastically at this event last year? I think she came with the gent in the Blue S with the checkered roof and mirror caps. She used to work at Bank of America. She gave me her card, but when I called there today, I found she no longer works there.
Melisa had talked to me about an idea to gather toys at RIT. I didn't catch all the details but she was confident we could load many MINIs with the toys she was set to gather. Of course, that idea was very appealing!
Holly and Mitch (last year?) mentioned the idea of making flyers people could post at work encouraging colleagues to bring toys that could be donated to the cause. I think it's a great idea, but I'm not particularly handy that way and I don't have time to do it (especially being not handy at it). Would anyone be willing to do that? Would people use them if someone took the time and energy to do so?
Last year, I think we had two Clubman's and the Peppersleigh loaded with toys. I gotta believe we can beat that this year since we've gotten such an early start! This is a great cause and we really had a blast with it last year. Please join in and help us make this year's event an even bigger success! Thank You!
I would be happy to work on a flyer. I can work on it myself or with anyone else that wants to help. Maybe we could brainstorm some ideas of the content and I will see what I can do.
I may be able to make it, it depends on whether I'm going to have curling practice those days, and what time. I'll post back here when I know for sure!
I threw the idea out to our students here but they went with a Teddy Bear tree for the Society for the Protection and Care of Children. I would be happy to hit up the staff and faculty though.

Snowflakes, toys, smiling kids, sleds (sleighs?), wreaths, hot chocolate (?), other ideas??
Just a few ideas Mitch, to wet your whistle...I'm sure whatever you come up with will be top-notch!

Ha Ha, yeah! Photoshop some MINI's pulling the fire truck, with a sack of toys on the back.
That even I would have to see. Our new KME foam & water Engine has a loaded weight of around 44,000 pounds. And the part I would love most, wish would be great for the club is seeing all those MINIs. Even if a MINI could pull 1000 lbs, that would mean that we would have 44 MINIs make the event . I think the Engine company would be on an EMS call taking care of Kim (tedscar) and his chest pain as he passes out .

That is just about the coolest thing I've ever heard of.
I'm supposed to work on the 19th, but I'm going to try to trade the day so I can make it.
This week is pretty busy for me but I'll get in touch with Towne and see if they want / are able to be a 'corporate sponsor'. I don't know exactly what that will mean for this event, but it would be great to have them officially participate.
BRG--I really hope you'll be able to make it--it is a very cool event (even without the fire engine (red) turning all the lights green!
Mitch, what have you been up to in your creative workshop? Any drafts of the flyer yet? Absolutely to the Toad following the delivery!
Last but certainly not least--welcome aboard ladybug514! This is a perfect 'inaugural event'! Look forward to meeting you!
Christmas on the 19th? Is Auburn in a different time zone? :)
